hi there

i'm having a huge problem with fs9
i just formatted my HD and instaled win 98   (i removed xp because of compatibility issues).
then i reinstalled fs9.
now, every time i try to start it i get

'This program has performed an illegal operation and wil be shut down'

it's a fresh install, from the box.

my specs:

athlon 2 ghz
1 gb ram
geforce 4 mx 440 (updated drivers)
windows 98 se

what do i need to do?

i noticed that other people are having this same problem, so i guess this is a common issue, right?

Windows 98 cannot support 1GB of RAM! - This is why your getting blue screen's etc I'm afraid. - A very common problem now many people have XP prepared machines, i.e. more RAM than 512MB!

Open up System Information, goto Tools, select system configuration utility . Click on "Advanced" and where it says "Limit memory to" Check that box and type in 512 click "OK" restart and things should be fine.

If ,on the other hand, you've got two sticks of 512MB in your machine, take one out!

The above tip works fine on my friends machine I built for him recently, XP Pro on 1 drive, Win 98 on another, 2GB RAM in his machine, without the memory "limited" in '98 he suffers exactly the same trouble as you, with it limited under '98, he can still use the 2GB when he's running XP.

Hope this helps,

Paul.
