hi all Smiley
i was wondering if you scenery and mesh masters out there could tell me if its possible to embed static objects such as sinking/floating planes, sunken ships,  floating dinghies in water mesh or as scenery objects Smiley
ive been wrapping my head around this but havent got enuf knowledge as yet .
if it is possible, would open a whole different area for missions and eyecandy Grin
thanks

Yes, of course it is possible.  Using a program like Flight Simulator Scenery Creator and some API scenery macros, or SCASM, objects can be easily embeded.

Edit: Someone like Hager could probably give you a better answer.  This is just mine.

Hi Egypt. Yes, as Ambassador says, what you suggest is possible with a conventional scenery design application & static scenery objects (API macros). You will obviously need experience with installing scenery & the programs themselves. I suggest you download FSSC from Ambassador's link & mess around with it. Create a few simple test airfields & find out how it works. Once you're familiar with the basics search the SimV Scenery Design/Utilities section for a utility named M98toBGL. You can use this to convert your own macros from simple existing FS98 aircraft.  Position them as you wish by changing the options before exporting in API format. Then import the macros into a scenery area using FSSC. Again, this will obviously involve a little experimentation until you get used to the utility. Not all 3rd party aircraft will succesfully convert into API macros which might involve a search for suitable examples.

PS. I'm not too sure about the dinghies. This is something I've been considering doing myself for some years. I haven't seen anything suitable to use as a macro & this would have to be created specially with a 3d modelling program like AF99, FSDS or Gmax. As it's a comparatively simple object it's possible it could be done with Easy Object Designer, again from the Scenery Design section. If it was created to scale I think a dinghy would be far too small to show up. I'm not convinced it would be worth doing.

PPS. Please remember that eye-candy hits frame rates. The more static scenery you use - the slower the sim will run.

thanks ambassador and hagar for your quick comeback Smiley
what prompted my original idea,  in  cfs2 , was for  a PBY search/ rescue mission that involved , three airmen in a dinghy, half sunken B24,  no real shoot ups just doing what PBY's used mainly to do
(if i changed the "contact points" for the landing gear enough would this give half sunken effect, and modified a launch enuf and........lol

thanks again

I think we've all had ideas on doing something similar at some point. As I mentioned previously, I'm not convinced it would be practical.

There are options for doing this in M98toBGL. I would modify the attitude of the aircraft before producing the macro. If you're familiar with the contact points this should be easy enough to figure out. Have a mess around with FSSC & M98toBGL. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Wink

I put this together in EOD...

The dinghy can be seen from about a 1000 ft off, so using it in missions wouldn't be practical because you'd need to be really close in order to see it.
