Due to recent solar activity which scientists are saying is at a peak for recent years, there is supposed to be a good chance for a huge display of the aurora Borealis even at lower latitudes.
If you are interested, here are some of the places I visit occasionally:

A couple of years ago I was listening to my police scanner while I was lying in bed, there was a bunch of people calling the police reporting a strange green glow in the sky, it turned out to be quite a phenominal auroral display, probably the best I can ever remember seeing here in Lower Michigan.
I would like to see another show like that one, I remember the sky changing from green to red to yellowish, and I never even stepped outside, just watched out the window, considering we live in town with all the streetlights and all, I can only imagine how brilliant it must had looked farther out in the country where there is less light pollution.
At present we have broken clouds with a light hazy overcast, so I don't know if we will be able to see anything or not, if it occurs too late I will be sleeping anyways.
I suppose I will just listen to my scanner when I go to bed, when the simple minded people start calling 911 reporting weird colors in the sky, I will know to get up and look out the window.

That might have been the same display that I saw a couple years ago. It was incredible. The whole sky was changing colors from Blue, green, red,& yellow.

Since it had been so long since I had seen the Northern Lights, I wasn't even sure what it was at the time so I didn't bother waking anyone up. I remember describing it to my family the next day, they weren't very happy with me Grin

Same here Foz. Not that we would see it here anyway. I have to content myself with the permanent glow from all the bright street lighting. Roll Eyes

It always seems to be the same when these spectacular displays are promised. Brilliant weather for weeks until the day it happens, then Bingo.......! The heavens open. I remember the fiasco when they planned to broadcast a rare sighting of some celestial body live on TV. Only chance we would see it in several hundred years & what happens? All we got to see was a layer of low cloud. I could have told them not to waste their time. LOL Grin

Keep smiling. Wink

Has anyone seen the Northern lights within the last few days yet?

Right now there's only scattered clouds so I should hopefully be able to see them tonight.

Been cloudy here every night so far, I've been seeing pictures taken the last couple of nights on spaceweather.com of awesome northern lights from a lot of places much farther south than me, now they are saying it's supposed to rain here until Sunday, it just figures.

Hi Doug,

Don't feel to ( is it 'to' or 'too' ??? Grin) bad. When I lived over by Seattle, I missed out on seeing a comet, meteor showers, and even a Lunar Eclipse, all because it was cloudy Roll Eyes Undecided

But I remember a couple years ago a big meteor shower was predicted for a saturday night, but it was cloudy. We were all depressed untill we heard it wasn't untill the next saturday, and it was a clear night. I spent almost the entire night with some friends watching the shower. The meteors were coming down fast. there were atleast a couple every second, and every 10-20 minutes, there would be a large meteor. It was so large that when it came through the atmosphere, it exploded, lighting up the entire sky. The explosion was quite loud, and the puff of whatever was left stayed put for over 10 minutes Shocked

That was one of the best nights i've ever had! 8)
