I just did my first airport editing with the new AFCAD for fs2004.  Anyone who was familiar with the old AFCAD program will find that the new one is QUITE similar in function....... except the visual scenery pops up  Wink.

One thing that I just noticed.... and I haven't seen a way (yet) in the program to get around this....... is that for upgrading small GA type places that are totally grass strip locations...... the "taxiway" visible scenery it generates.... is asphalt / concrete Shocked with yellow lines.  If you use "apron" type taxiways... you get yellow stripes on the grass.  So there you have a nicely paved taxiway leading to a barely buldozed grass strip  Wink.

Worse yet...... at night there are the blue taxiway lights...... sitting next to an absolutely pitch black grass runway  Wink Wink.

So I might have missed something so far....... that was my first try with it.  But the first release may have overlooked these types of airports.

It is PROBABLY something that I have missed.

best,

....................john

You could try FSSC to put an exclusion zone or something over the airport? Then possibly Afcad wouldn't make changes to the visual scenery - its only a thought but it might work.
Im going to experiment with VNLK as Im having trouble getting my scenery of bristol airport working with AFCAD's tracks and need to get to know this new afcad by creating a new airport. So if I find out anything Ill let you know.
One thing I think is certain however is AFCAD cant put those lovely lines over a FSSC'ed Airport  Sad

Thanks Birdman.  I'll look into it.

BTW... I don't think that this version of AFCAD can create a totally NEW airport.  It can only edit existing airports.  If I remember correctly it is mentioned in the html help file.... that function will be in aq future release.

VNLK is one of the most manic airfields in FS Shocked Its  in the shadow of MT.Everest in the Himalayas.
One end of the runway is next to a huge cliff Shocked while the other side looks out over a deep valley 8). (Always thought it needed some AI Roll Eyes)  It's one of those Quote:
small GA type places that are totally grass strip locations
just like yours.
There will be quite alot of airfields like this one which can now be 'spiced up' easily with AFCAD rather than going into FSSC and stuff. I am still disapointed that the lines don't work over an FSSC'd airport.... (in fact its driving me crazy... Roll Eyes.. Angry Angry Sad Roll Eyes)

YES YOU CAN HAVE GRASS, WATER, DIRT,ETC. ETC.

Make your taxi way then click on the taxi line .
The link properties window will come up and just scroll on the surface menu.
You can shut off the lights also.

Hey people You have to play with AFCAD to find out what it can do
AFCAD for 2002 was GREAT! AFCAD for 2004 is the BEST so far.

Just gotta take a little time to find what it can doo. Grin

ronfad,

Hey... thanks.

Is that documented in the html help file?  If so... I missed it.

I'll check it out.

Thanks ronfad  Wink, I thought I had read in the Readme file that the surface could not be changed and that was something for future releases. I must have been mistaken.

I agree that the new AFCAD is amazing. They've done a really great job adding all the new features so quickly. I look forward to the future when the Aprons can be manipulated, then we wouldn't have a clash between scenery design and AFCAD.
