I have finally done it! i beat CFS3 as an allied pilot. It was always so easy as the Germans to march right into Allied terretory but as an allied pilot this was much more difficult.

Here is what i did for those of you who are having similar troubles.

1. Start with a few ship attacks until an invasion begins along the french coast.

2. Once the beach head is established concentrate your missions primarily on the Close Air Support Roles and secondarily on factory busting. These types of missions seem to have the most direct impact on the campaign, it seems microsoft really wants to stress the idea of supporting large ground operations.

3. Launch ground offensives only when things start to get depserate. I managed to only fly 37 missions to beat the axis and used only 2 ground offensives niehter of which lasted more than 3 or 4 days each.

4. I did occasionally set the time frame of the campaigne to 1024 speed for a few minutes to get a feel for how the ground war was going and what areas needed to be concentrated on most.

5. Try like heck to concentrate all of your attacks in areas which will lead to the capture of not only the white victory location boxes but ESPECIALLY the green production center boxes. The more production centers you capture the harder it gets for Germany to defend it's territory.

Hope these tips work for you guys who have expressed trouble in the area of winning as an allied pilot.

and remember Fighter sweeps, Bridge busting, Taking out ammo depots and ships is fun but Close air support and seeing that the victory locations and production centers are captured is the only way to win.

i only regret that i never seemed to run across enemy fighters, finishing off the campaign with over 1050 ground kills but only 7 air kills... sure would be nice to have more little swastikas painted on the side of my spitfire.

good luck

Good job winning for the allies.  By the way, what were your realism settings set at?

My realism percentage was 80%

i had the following options checked if memory serves me

1. Show indicated airspeed - on
2. Stress causes damage - on
3. Sunglare - on
4. Auto rudder - on (as i have no pedals)
5. Unlimited ammo - Off
6. Unlimited Fuel - off

dont rememebr all the rest but i can check if you really wanna know.

Were you British or American?

I have won once as British but the Brits seem to foil my American efforts (perverse allies that they are).

I was british.

The American campaign seems to be the most difficult, i think it may be due to the fact that you are trapped in a dog of an airplane like the P-47 for so long. That thing stinks. On the other hand the tempest is a pretty responsive ground attack aircraft.

One way you can increase your effectiveness is to make sure all of your wingmen have a seperate target to attack. I will usually assign one pair of wingmen to the primary goal and the rest to some secondary targets like artillary sites or bridges. while one guy and myself hit the main target. spreads out the damage i think.

During my campaign i landed in a field fuel tanks dry and ammo spent about 3 or 4 times. I got my entire engine shot off once, and thought for sure my pilot was dead but i managed to parachute out somehow. I flew a tempest all the way back to friendly lines that was so badly shot up it wouldnot let me warp. I hate that! takes ages when you are in a deep strike.

and as for the seven kills air to air. i really only came across enemy fighters on maybe 3 missions which was strange. fortunately it was during return to base, exhausted my ammo on 4 or 5 of the seven. i dont see how some of these guys got as many kills as they did with these planes using all the ammo in a matter of seconds. Especially the Me-109!
