Like the title says this is a rant Roll Eyes.

About: Vegetarianism: USELESS AND STUPID! It works to the exact opposite of what people intend it to! You see not eating meat does not save any animals at all! It actually causes more meat to be wasted! Which if they are so "Humane" should upset them even more! As a matter of fact anyone "Humane" would respect an animal that gave its life to be eaten and eat it NOT WASTE IT!

There now I feel better!
Comments are welcome Grin

We are omnivores.  Vegetarians require vitamin suppliments to remain healthy, however I would not wish to impose my views on others.  The existence of vegatarians means more bacon for me.

I resent that. Some people like me are vegetarians for health reasons, not because we're part of the animal humane society. In fact, I would love nothing more then to go hunting but since I don't eat the meat it WOULD be a waste

Absolutely not. In fact, I've known people who are surprised that i'm not "feeble and pale" like the 'traditional stereotype theories'

I knew a girl who decided to become a vegie to impress her hippie boyfriend. She looks pale all the time, that worries me.  Undecided I would not expect any woman to change their lifestyle to suit me, one of me is enough.  Grin

I remember hearing a similar rant on the radio a while back.  They were talking asking about vegies. The host said that their was a guy in his building that was a vegi. He was so strict that he even refused to give his dog any meat. Appearently this dog was sickly looking and tired all the time. The question posed to listners was "is this animal crulety?" I for one think it is. A dog eats mostly meat to survive and it's digestive system cannot handle mass amounts of carbohydrates, therefore the dog becomes nutrient deficient eating only plants.

I think it's partially true. I've known people who were fanatical about being a vegetarian, eating only certain things, and yet were the sickest people I knew. I'll eat a lot of things, unless it's meat. I was even Lactos Intollerant when I was an infant, and even now my body can only handle so much dairy.

Some people argue that being vegetarian is the reason why i'm so short. The real reason is that it runs in the family. I'm taller then my mom, both my grandmother's, almost as tall as my dad & his dad. About the only tall person in my family is my mom's dad, and he's 6 foot 3. In fact, my grandfather on my dad's side didn't stop growing untill he was in his mid-20s, and he's 5 foot 9 Tongue

Being intolerant of meat is one thing, refusing to eat it so you don't hurt the little animals is just silly. I remember a comic's rant on this. "Does your food have a face?!, well they eat heads of letuce, ears of corn, the little eyes on the potatos, they're the one's who are savage."  Grin

i really dont know what i'd do if i didnt eat meat, as a matter of fact, i can't imagine not eating meat.  But i'd have to say not eating meat for health reasons is acceptable, just like some people don't eat certain other foods i.e. people who are yeast or lactose intolerant but the people who dont eat meat because of the little animals are wasting their time really, because what is them not eating it going to prove, nothing.  The meatworks isnt going to lessen production because of these people.  But then again, it is more meat for me.  . . . .

This is going to be one of those "hot" topics. Let hope we can keep it from being locked out.

Andrew, I respect you views and know it is hard to defend your views. The rational behind your stand is good and bad.  A life is killed just to so we can eat.
If we did not eat meat then there would be an over run of some animals that have few or no natural enemies. A good example would be the white tail deer in central NY. With out hunting there would be a 50% increase in car/deer MVA's resulting in more injuries.

The one thing I cant stand is killing an animal just for its fur. If your going to kill an animal for fur,  You better eat its meat
Done with the soap box..next...

Er, Loomex, Andrew doesn't eat meat because he can't, not because he won't.  I don't mind anyone doing anything they want.  I'm not interested in their defence.  As long as they don't stop me eating my steak and chips I'm a happy chappy.

CHOMP_ROCK. You're quite entitled to rant about anything you like. Personally, I don't see what all the fuss is about. If someone wishes to eat vegetables or meat it's their choice. Like Will, I'm happy as long as nobody tries to dictate what I eat. I like meat but have no desire to go out & kill anything to get it. If I had to do this it would probably turn me into a vegetarian overnight. A properly balanced vegetarian diet should cause no harm whatsoever, in fact quite the reverse. Roll Eyes

Andrew   Stick to your guns, your reasons are your own.  I am not a vegetarian, I eat fish, turkey and chicken, but I have not eatten red meat in 6+yrs.  Like others, I take vitamins, but I would do that anyway. I believe the reason one chooses to eat what they do, is as unique as they themselves are, and to group vegetarians together, like grouping and diverse assortment of people with a common interest is wrong and foolish.  I hope just because we here at SimV share a commopn interest we are not all the same, that would boring.

I think CHOMP_ROCK's rant has to do with the ones who are really obeseesive about it. I knew another girl who was a vegi. The class was doing a project in Canadian History where we were to recreate a traditional French Canadian stew. She was quite upset that the stew was going to contain meat. One kid pipes up and says quite sarcastically "If it bothers you that much, then just pick the meat out." We all had a good laugh but that's not the point I'm trying to make. She claimed she was a vegi for because it was helthier. Now get this, she smoked and wore a lot of that aerosol hairspray. I used to sit behind her and she always smelt like a hair salon had caught fire.  Grin

The point here is, you can believe what ever you wish, just don't force your beliefs on others. They say you should never talk about politics and religion in open company but perhaps it would make sense to expand this rule to include any controversial beliefs. There is a time and place to discus these things. Talk about it in close company, don't parade it down the streets.

Reasonable suggestion Orenda but who gets to decide what is controversial?  I am quite open minded but others tend to be more narrow in their beliefs.  If I made the decision I'd allow pretty much anything but some might suggest that any reference to, say, the middle east is too controversial.

I'm not attacking you, I just feel that self censorship is the best way forward.  After all it is often the ranter that looks more foolish than those he attacks.

Too true. However, you must agree there is a major lack of common sense these days. It's rather said that people cannot control themselves. They could at least attempt to make an educated argument in favour of their decision.
For one, I think that vegaterianism is not healthy. A majority of vegitarians do not have the time or skill to maintain a complex meal plan. This often results in nutrient deficiancies and therefore the person becomes pale and weak. The same thing can occure with eating too much meat. A balance omnivorous diet is the simplest to maintain health as you draw on the benefits of both, and not the faults of one alone. Think of vegitarianism as being a car without oil. The gas (carbohydrates found in plants) gives the car the energy it needs to go, however without enough oil (protine from meats) the car will not run well at all. Now think of proper vegatarianism as a hydrogen fuel cell car. It runs well but it's a very complex thing to set up.

It's not that hard, once you have been to a slaughterhouse and seen cattle either hit in the head with a hammer or shot with a small caliber handgun, the sight of steak brings on a different set of memories.

'Tis the problem.  I could make freinds with a KKK member if he didn't force his beliefs upon me, you might even learn a thing or two from him.  This girl at my school goes around saying "Meat is murder!".  Fortunately the generals response is "shut up".  Go ahead and eat your salad, but don't bother me with my hamburger. Grin I love the Luftwaffe circa World War II, but I don't walk around saying "sieg heil!", although my friends do accuse me of such. Roll Eyes As said previously, we all need to learn one concept (which happens to be American, or at least it was originally): All may have the right to do as they wish, so long as they do not infringe upon the rights of others.

Anyway, back to the topic, I see the fact that evolution, the Lord, Allah; whatever; designed us in such a way that we could eat meat and plants.  A dragonfly eats its intended diet, why can't we.  As with all rules, there is no %100.  Those with dietary concerns are the exception here.

And the slaughterhouse did not disturb me I still eat steak and red meat all of the time without feeling guilty. As for Andrew I feel bad for him if he Can't eat meat. I'm NOT forcing my opinions on anyone I’m just expressing them! If I were FORCING I would be holding someone at gun or knifepoint to get him or her to believe! SO DON'T ACCUSE ME OF IT!

I really regret offending anyone and to say the least I'm actually very sorry for doing so but I cannot help but take advantage of this Country's freedoms. I could have been shot for saying a thing like that where I came from. As a matter of fact almost everyone there carries a gun. I carried a .44 from the time I was 8. can anyone guess where I'm from?
