Greetings fellow simmers,

I have just finished reading a group test of graphics cards in a recent edition of a compuetr magazine where the Editor's Choice was a Tyan Tacheon G9600 Pro.  I was pleased because it fits my budget, costing £117 (approx. $187).  Its Spec is as follows:

128 Meg Mem
400 MHz Core Speed & 600MHz Mem Speed

The cards ranged in price from £45 - £170, with a Hercules 3D Prophet coming second.

Having had a quick look on the internet for cards at about the same price I found a 256MB MSI GEFORCE FX 5600TD DUAL HEAD for £20 ($32) more.

Is there an obvious choice?  I know it's not just about the amount of memory and don't know how the 5600TD chip compares with the Radeon 9600 Pro  ???

I would be extremely grateful for any thoughts you might have on this matter.

Many thanks.    8)

Apology to the Moderators:  I now realise that this should have been posted in the hardware section.  I just feel so at home in the FS2002 Section!   Embarrassed

I considered the Ati 9600 but decided to opt for the Nvidia 5600 chipset with no regrets!

The FX5600 Ultra's are quicker again, personally I'd not be too bothered about a 256MB 3D card frankly I think you just waste money, most games are optimized for a 64MB 3D card at most.

A friend of mine has more or less the same spec machine as mine (below), one differance is he has a 256MB GeForce FX, I see no obvious improvement with FS2002 with his 256mb card, and strangely, playing Battlefield 1942 he can't get smooth gameplay at the same game graphics settings as me!
