Hi
If the aircraft that are designed for 2002 work in 2004 should it be possible that aircraft in 2004 work in 2002 ???

HSV yes they should. However sometimes the effects can go a little awry.

Thanks Ozzy
The reason I asked is I downloaded the default dc3 from flightsim, however the aircraft does not appear when you select it. there are no error messages saying cant load aircraft and then you go to start the aircraft does'nt show up on the runway.
Thanks

Ozzy. Did you once mention that some guys are experimenting with the FS2004 defaults in FS2002? Maybe you can elaborate or point me to a thread.
I tried the Piper Cub without success. I could select it from the menu but it was invisible. When I tried to fly it FS2002 crashed to desktop. I had to delete the Cub before it would run again. I wouldn't expect default files for later versions of FS to be compatible with the earlier sims.

Gosh! I haven't tried the Cub Doug, all the ones I've tried thus far have worked just fine.
I believe there was also a problem with the Andover or somesuch. Roger (Rollerball) got his machine chewed up by it.
I'll ask around and see if anyone has compiled a list of not compatibles yet.

Ozzy. I think we need to differentiate between 3rd party aircraft & the defaults. RollerBall's problem was with a 3rd party FS2002 Beverley in FS2002.
Here's the way I see it.
Most 3rd party aircraft designed for the earlier sims will work in FS2004 but not all are fully compatible.
Until the FS2004 SDKs are released, 3rd party aircraft designed for FS2004 are actually created following the FS2002 SDKs. It follows that these should also be compatible with FS2002.
I would also expect the FS2002 default aircraft to work in FS2004 but not vice versa. I tried the FS2004 default Piper_J3Cub in FS2002 to confirm this. As I expected, it's not compatible.

Ah I see Doug, just 2k4 isn't available here yet! So I guess I'll be picking it up while I'm home next week.
I've only used 3rd party planes, and apart from the odd effect going awry there have been no problems for me thus far.
I see where you are coming from now, and apologise for not understanding what you meant! Just me being as dense as lead before the first bucket of AM coffee

Ah OK. I didn't realise you don't have FS2004 yet. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something & that we get our facts straight.
To clarify. As a general rule of thumb, each new version of FS introduces improvements over all previous versions. It takes 2 years on average to develop the new features. It stands to reason that, in most cases, default files including these features will not be compatible with earlier versions of the sim.
This is the same with most programs in continuous development. I'm now using Paint Shop Pro 7. Earlier versions of the program like PSP5 & PSP6 cannot open files saved out from PSP7 in the native PSP format. Conversely, the later versions can open PSP files created with all previous versions.
PS. It's early days with FS2004 & many 3rd party developers won't have it. Until the SDKs are released, most 3rd party aircraft posted as "FS2004" will be older FS2002 designs updated for FS2004. In this case, unless they're earlier FSDS1 models updated in Gmax or FSDS2, I see no advantage in using them in FS2002. You might as well use the original versions.
