It's easy to forget how good a movie is when you haven't seen it for a while. This is true for me with The Lion King. I first saw this movie in theaters with my two nieces and haven't actually sat down to watch it all the way through since. The Lion King is Disney's masterwork. You may argue that position belongs to Snow White or Pinnochio or Cinderella, but that's not true. No other Disney movie has ever come close to living up to my ideals of what good entertainment for a child AND an adult should be. Perhaps a part of that is due to the fact that it is loosely based on Shakespeare's Hamlet. Another is the superb soundtrack from Elton John. I don't know for sure. I only know that despite being aimed an audience of children, I love this movie.
The DVD is wonderfull with a full translation to digital. The colors are beyond belief and the animations could hang in an art gallery. I can only imagine watching this on a plasma TV. The sound matches the picture. In 5.1, you can sit and actually feel the ground rumble during the stampede and a couple of times, I found myself actually looking over my shoulder in response to certain sounds.
All in all, this is a fantastic DVD!

I remember seeing the Lion King when it first came out in my home town's only theater. I think I was about 7 or 8. Unfortunately that theater isn't there anymore, they turned it into a cheap night club.
I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday.
