I'm sitting here waiting to take a quiz for my Fundamentals of Networking class and talking with another student and we have both come to the conclusion that our instructor is incompetent.  Now I do not mean just boring (which he is) or indifferent (which he is), but just plain incompetent.  Monday in class we were discussing hardware like routers, bridges, hubs, and gateways and such and I asked him if he had some of this stuff we could see or where we might go to see some.  He had no idea, and suggested I talk to another networking teacher.  Understand, I would have been happy with just the name of a store to go to and browse, but he didn't even have that.  EVERYONE in this class has commented to me how boring he is and how they have trouble staying awake and I do too.  This is not a boring subject.  I consider networking a fascinating subject, but this guy is just killing it for me.  Homework can only be turned in at the beginning of class and if it's after class starts, forget it.  He won't allow someone to make up a test if they miss for any reason.  One guy was closing on his house the day of a test and he wouldn't budge.  I am going to go nuts, this guy is so frustrating!

End of rant...

Sorry you got stuck with an idiot as a teacher... Angry

I know how frustrating that can be, as I have a Calculus proffessor who is so confusing, and just makes us all feel like idiots...(Which we are, but that's besides the point...) Anybody who doesn't really know what they are doing, or wants to do what they are doing should not be doing what they are doing!

lol...is that confusing?  Grin Didn't mean for it to be... Honest!

Jared

P.S. Hope that the prof gets a life and is more interesting and receptive to questions...

AS a continuation to my last post,

I had a intro to comp science class last semester where we began programming in java...one particular day I had to write a program that did something...so after playing around for about 3 hours I still couldn't get it to work.  when I finally asked the prof, he came over looked at it, and said that he didn't know what was wrong with it and why it wouldn't work! He then wanted me to play with it until it did work...keep in mind that this was a 2 hour lab...(Already in the 3rd hour, late for work...), and this lab wasn't graded!

I ended up getting it to work after about 2 more hours, still not sure what I had wrong...bt I ended up getting an A in the class so I guess that's all that matters.

Pippin. Are you on a uni course or is this some sort of adult education programme? I'm not familiar with how it's done in the US but I assume either you or your employers are paying for it. If I were in your position I would complain bitterly or take my custom elsewhere. But then, I've always been an awkward old sausage. 8)

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's incompetence in any walk of life. It's different for youngsters & from what I read here too many have to put up with it.

I would if I could.  Unfortunately, the colleges around here have the area divided up among themselves and if you go out of your district, the tuition is almost double.  If you're not a state resident, it's even worse.  I tried going back to school about 8 years ago and learned a very hard lesson about what happens when you complain about a teacher.  For some reason, no paper I did never got above a D and I eventually flunked the class.

Kevin, welcome to the reality of adult education. I sometimes think they scour the bins for some of these people.
Oddly enough one of the best teachers I had was a lady who was actually a solictor, and taught in the evenings because she enjoyed it, I was dreading a year of corporate law, but eventually came out with an A, and really enjoyed what she taught us, as she made it relevent as well as interesting.
However I also had to learn accountancy from an accountant, he was hopeless!
