What you you guys think the most frequently asked questions are here at SimV?

Here's my short list.

1.  How do I put the virtual cockpit from one plane into another?

2.  How do I install airplanes?

3.  I'm not giving my system specs, but why won't FS run on my computer?

4.  I'm running a 286 with Windows 3.1.1. and 64mb of RAM..why won't FS: CoF work?

5.  Does anyone know where I can find a good plane?

6.  Where is a good place to fly?

7.  I repainted my plane and its all gray now.  Why is that?

8.  Where can I get a free copy of ArrCab?

9.  How do you get a picture in your signature/avatar?

10.  How can I set FS up so that all I have to do is double click the icon and then the computer will fly everything for me?

Any additions/modifications?

I think you covered it Hype. The one about a 286 on Win 3.1.1 might be a slight exaggeration. Roll Eyes

Do you know the answers to all those questions? Tongue

Well Redwing, I have stock answers to most of them. Some are posted on my Lair. I've been answering questions like that on a daily basis for something like 4 years. It might take a few mails & more details but we can usually fix most things. I always try to remember that I was a newbie once. We didn't have the SimV forum when I first started so I had to figure most of it out myself. Wink

It seems to me that the FAQ forum isn't getting used enough

I'm not sure the FAQ forums worked out as intended. From experience I know that beginners don't know the best place to look for this stuff. Most have stumbled on this site by accident & come looking for help. I feel the least we can do is to answer their questions in a friendly manner, however many times they're repeated.

I'm pleased to say that's the norm here, unlike some other forums I could mention. Wink

Forgive my feeble attempt at a little humor. I meant to reinforce your point that there are no stupid questions (most of the time, anyway!). Wink

I have, BTW, visited "Grumpy's Lair" and made use of the information there! Good work! Smiley

Thanks Redwing. I did get your point. Wink

Another thing worth remembering. Questions are easily misunderstood so make sure you read them through carefully before answering. Stick to the subject & don't give too much information all at once which can be confusing. I've been as guilty of this as anyone over the last few days. Roll Eyes

I totally agree, It's just that somethings like maybe the signature/avatar need to have a little tutorial.

Maybe you're right Andrew but where do you post these tutes? I thought posting FAQ & tutes on my own site would help take some of the pressure off but most people don't even know it's there. Newbies are usually confused enough already by the time they get here.

Most of these things are explained somewhere if you know where to look. Did anyone here check out Yabb Help before asking how it's done? It's right up there on the forum menu bar. Wink

For some reason the thing that does seem to confuse people most is posting images on this forum. You would need to understand that before using your own image as an avatar or signature. Rifleman did an excellent tute which Pete made a sticky topic in the Freeware Screenshots forum. It's so much easier to point people to these tips & tutes rather than trying to explain it yourself.

Is that even possible? 64MB of RAM in a 286?
I have a 486 that maxes out at 64MB.

Chances are, the 286 wouldn't run 64mb of RAM, but I don't know.

And guys, this was meant as humor.  lol  We were all new once, and I know that.

But to correct one thing....there IS such a thing as a stupid question.  Trust me.  Deal with the right people long enough, and you'll realize that!  haha
