BALLOONIST SETS RECORD
Adventurer David Hempleman-Adams has landed after becoming the first person to cross the Atlantic in an old-style wicker basket balloon.
The 46-year-old set the record despite being hit by two sonic booms from a passing Concorde and having to lose altitude rapidly.
The balloon landed safely in a hedge alongside a field north-east of Blackpool and Mr Hempleman-Adams was able to calmly climb out of the basket, his team said.

The BA Concordes will remain in service until October 24th.

The final flight of the Tour of Britain will take place on Friday 24 October 2003, the same day as Concorde's final flight from New York JFK to London.
