Hello all... Grin...!
Aircraft spotters... 8)...!

Pictures of these two big lumps of metal, with whirling rotors on top, appear in this months "FLYER" magazine...
Can someone identify them for me please...?

...not that I really want to fly them, 'cos they generally have a mind of their own, and firmly refuse to respond to what I want them to do... Roll Eyes...!

..plus the fact that when all finally goes pear-shaped, and the seat of my trousers has suddenly become moist, they have no wings to keep them aloft, unlike birds... Cry...!
...but I am curious to know what they are... Wink...!
LOL...LOL...LOL...!

...

...

Pictures courtesy of "FLYER" magazine.

Thanks all... Grin...!

An RAF Puma and a Chinook Paul. You should like the Chinook, it doesn't go all over the place thanks to those contra-rotating rotors (no tail rotor to induce your favourite spining round-and-round like a drunk ice-dancer problem) Wink

Hi Craig and Mark...!
Thanks for your replies...!
Whirly things are a mystery to me... Roll Eyes...!

You know me, I get into these whirly thingies every now and again, hover, spin round and round, until my eye-balls explode, then land, get out and go for a nice quiet chuff around in my little Cessna 150... 8)...!

LOL...LOL...LOL...!

I'm still not convinced of flying machines that don't have any wings... Wink...!
...and just go round and round, until they finally disappear up their ...... Shocked...!
LOL...LOL...LOL......!

Cheers both... Grin...!
Paul.
(England).

P.S. Correction...."Disappear" = 1x "s", 2x "p".....LOL...!
(Hagar is watching...).... Roll Eyes...!

You bet I'm watching. Tongue Grin

I have to agree on those flying threshing machines. One thing though Foz, surely any self-respecting magazine would tell you the name of those choppers. Maybe you need new glasses as well as a hearing aid. LOL Tongue Tongue Tongue 8)

Hi Doug... Grin...!
NAH...
It was an excellent article, (as always), dealing with maps of military Low Flying Areas, altitudes, and the possibility of Airprox's.
Also time of the day when to avoid military aircraft.

Mags with a source of good GA information.>>>

The SAAF used to use the Puma, they still do, but in an upgraded form called the Oryx.

There's some more information available at http://www.ipmssa.za.org

I've downloaded the Puma, tried it out, spun round and round, crashed.
No change there then... Cry...!
Downloaded the Chinook, couldn't even get off the ground.... Cry...!
Took off in the Cessna 150, reached 2000 feet, swopped over to the Chinook.
Problem solved... Grin...!
But I can't keep doing that... Cry...!

Parked the Puma and the Chinook in the Hangar, drained the fuel, remover the batteries and covered them up..... Wink...!

Wheeling the Cessna 150 out again.....Joy... 8)...!

LOL...LOL...LOL...!

Cheers all... Grin...!

Mine is larger

...

Nothing beats the Mi-26 (perhaps the Mi-12, but that's a prototype which never got to fly)

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

Yours may be bigger but mine are far faster and quite a bit more maneuverable Grin !

...
Mil Mi-28 Havoc
...
Kamov KA-50 Hokum "Black Shark"

But they are also harder to land Roll Eyes.

P.S. Ivan I regret to tell you that both of these can beat your Mi-26 hands down, in their own way Grin
