Hello All!
Yesterday my adventure headed straight north and I am really starting to get into some beautiful scenery!  8)
I continued on from Goose Bay, Labrador and headed to Iqaluit, Nunavut.

On this leg of the trip I once again learned a very valuable lesson...one that could have meant the end of this journey!
Consider the details about this leg of the trip...1) Very remote flight with little or no airports near by...2) Very long trip, 675 Nm's...3)Not very flat ground in case of emergency landing...
So considering all these facts, you would think that you would make sure everything was ok to get you to your destination...like...lets say...FUEL ! ! ! !

Yes, its true...out of sheer excitement to carry on with my trip, I neglected to check my fuel and see if I had enough to get me to Iqaluit.

I head off and once I am cruising along I look down at my fuel gauges and just about panick! Quickly doing some calculations, very carefuly watching my computer to tell me the estimated distance to empty, and hoping I don't hit a head wind, I was able to determine that I "should" be ok. If all went well I would have enough fuel with about a 30 nm reserve.

After waiting about 5 minutes for the Skylane to clear the runway, I have my clearance and am lined up...


Clear of the airspace and getting on course....(at this point I still have not realized my fuel issue!)

Aproaching the northern part of Labrador. Thats the Atlantic Ocean on the horizon...(oh..and now I have realized my fuel situation and am frantically trying to determine if I should go 100 nm off course to Nain, Labrador to get some fuel...)

So to add to my anxiety for this trip, once I cross the Hudson Strait and aproach Nunavut, I hit a solid wall of cloud...(at this point I am thinking to myself..."Bring It On!)


Starting my decent and hoping that this cloud cover is not right to the ground...

With a great sigh of relief I break through the clouds and have a visual of the airport...(no ATC here, have to call out my landing manually)

Once on the ground I parked right nice and close to the fuel station so as to REMIND myself to fuel up next time!  Notice that I only had 5 gallons left!

what cruise altitude was that... my alps trip was at 12000 and i got a lower fuel flow

hehe,this happened to me once,too. i flew transatlantic (azorian isles (sp?) to the bermudas) in a BAe 146. i first thought that i could make it easily over the ocean ,but when i was airborne (took off with maximum fuel) , i realized that those four engines are thirsty like hell. so i had to stop two of the four engines in-flight.
as i finally landed on the bermudas (panical approach - had to get down at all costs!), i realized that i had just one per cent of my maximum fuel capacity left!

the next time ,i should better check the maximum range of the aircraft i'm flying.
