I went for a joyride in my new aquisition today...

...
On the tarmac at Edwards AFB, ready to go.

...
The climb performnace on the F-16 is amazing, even fully loaded.

...
Gear up, flaps up, we're buliding speed rapidly.

...
Pulling some high G's.

...
Almost the speed on sound here, pulling more than 8 G's.

...
Nothing but blue sky where I'm pointed.

...
Ok, I'm a G addict!. Making some tight turns to bleed off the speed.

...
Gear out to create some drag.

...
On finals now, I turn towards the runway, the weather is closing in.

...
Safely back on the ground - what a ride!.

This is probably the best freeware aircraft I have ever seen, I recommend you all go and get it NOW!  Grin

Very nice shots of a very nice aircraft.

Its a very close comparrison between the Lago one and this. I prefer this one!
When a model is this good, you have to look for niggly things, and only things i could see that i could comment on is the angle of the canopy when in the open position....has a too high attitude, and the other, which is down to personal preferance is the textures.

They are very nice, but some photoreal art can sometimes look a tad 'cartoony' and blotchy when viewed close up.
If screenshots are taken against a backdrop of photoreal scenery textures, then the effect is much better.

On the whole tho, Kirk is a modeller who always produces work of an extremley high standard, and this is up there with the rest of his creations.

Great Shots of a GREAT Plane!

I've got both the Base and Thunderbird pack.  I LOVE IT!  Does Kirk have any other 'mind-bogglingly-good' creations??  That Thing is INCREDIBLE!

I posted some shots of the thunderbird here -->
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=screen;action=display;num=...

It too is a great bird, but the photoreal textures get grainy in a few places.  Comes with a pre-done smokesystem  too.

I think (I'm probably wrong) that the last aircraft Kirk Olsson did was a Dassault Mirage F-1. I also seem to remember he did a PC3-Orion for FS2000.

He really is the "Meljet" of the FS military world.

I only hope he gets to see how much he is appreciated.

I suggest all those of you that have downloaded it all send a quick email to say thanks, he really does deserve it.

My hat's off to you Kirk!  Grin

Ric,
This is Eric. You where helping me on another post re- the 2d panel problem I was having. I still can't figure it out but it is not a big worry. Anyway, I was just looking at your great shots above and it reminded me of one other question I have. How do you get those contrails to display. I did the installation correctly. Gauges to gauges folder, effects to effects, etc. but no vapor trails.
Also I have NOT replaced the aircraft cfg. with the optional contrails cfg. provided so I'm at a loss.
Any suggestions,
Eric

If you have placed the effect files in the effects folder, it should work.

Remeber, they effects are controlled by a guage that is put in the VC panel, so that might be where your problem lies.

Also, according to the .xml gauge, you need to be under 12,000ft and pulling 7G for the contrails to appear. You can edit this in a text editor like notepad. I've changed mine to produce contrails at 4G and above.

Thanks Ric,
I checked and rechecked the whole instal, but I'm sure I did it right. I opened the contrail effect in notepad and noticed a reference to fx_smoke.bmp. Is it possible that could be missing? Also I noticed that in the original package, the gauges folder contained a 'viper hud gauge' and a folder called 'keffect', in it was, what looked to me like an xml gauge called 'gforce'. When I installed the plane I left that in the folder and just copy and pasted both contents of the original gauge folder. Was I supposed to pull the 'gforce' gauge out and put it in the gauges folder alone with the hud gauge?
Sorry to be a pain but I just want to optimize this plane because I love it so much!
Thanks again
Eric

Hi.

You put the WHOLE "Keffect" folder into the gauges folder. Like this: ...

Do that, and it should all work!  Grin

PS, you're in no way being a pain.....questions like this is what these forums are for!!

Thanks for saying I'm not a pain. I just feel a little silly because I can usually figure out aircraft installs but this one has me a little buggered. Anyway, I noticed, according to your screenshot, you've got the 'keffect' folder in the effects folder and not the gauges folder as you've indicated. I may be seeing something wrong but that's what it looks like to me and if thats the case, that may solve my problem
Thanks again
Eric

Hi,

Yes, the Keffect folde goes in the "effects" folder, but the "Gforce.xml" file is actually a guage, sorry if I confused that bit.

The effects (xxxx.fx) go in the "Effects" folder
The file "Gforce.xml" goes in the folder "Keffect", which in turn is in the "effects" folder of fs9.
