Multiplayer is when CFS3 really shines!  Ahh yes, to circle that Thunderbolt @ 6500 feet & then come crashing down out of the clouds to pounce some unsuspecting fool in a Spitfire, hot lead leaping from those Browning machine-guns like fire from a Roman Candle, then climbing away out of reach!

Hallaluah!

The Spitfire & P-51 are fine for beginners, but nothing teaches you strong combat tactics like the P-47!

Reilly.

Better not let Ozzy hear you talking like that!  You mess with his Spitfires you're asking for trouble! Smiley

Ozzy this man is more than right!  The way he decribes the dogfight, it would work very well.  The Jug could out dive and out shoot the Spit and the Jugs fitted with the paddle blade prop could out climb the Mark V.  Diving out of clouds and lightin' up a Spit would be very easy with the 8 50s, and then quickly climbing back up though the clouds, the Spit formation would never have known what hit 'em!!

P-47, 1
Spitfire, 0

Welcome Reilly.  I must warn you though, it is not a good idea to question Ozzy's Spitfire, infact I'm indangering my life to type this, or the color of my house.   Wink  Ozzy has already marmaladed several people's homes, and has threatened me several times.  Have fun man!

Sock Wink Grin

P.S.  J/K Ozzy, please don't maralade my house!! Grin  LOL!  Keep on flying the 47 Reilly, she's a wonderful bird!!

Just remember that the speed of the P47 bled off fast in a steep climb. The Spit is not a plane for beginners. A skilled pilot in a Spit is more than a match for anything of that era.

However, The best way to dogfight is to fly in a Tempest and show the world what 2,400hp of napier sabre can do! Grin

As much as I like the plane, I've always thought that flying the Jug was akin to strapping a bunch of machine guns to a brick and hoping you can pull out of the dive in time. Smiley

The Spit is a fine plane, and perfect for a beginner --once they master it's brisk aerobatic roll (which usually only takes about ten minutes of tumbling around wildly, particularly if making the transition from the Jug, which takes a great deal of input on the yoke!)   Beginners think that aerial combat simply consists of out-turning their opponents & the Spit is MORE than accomodating!  In fact, this aircraft is a genuine PAIN IN THE ASS for the P-47, which, as was pointed out, bleeds off energy quickly in a climb or a turn  (and lord help us all in a climbing turn!  Cheesy)

But the P-47 is the perfect platform for anyone who thinks that a dog-fight is a helluva lot funner when you have out-thought your opponent, rather than out-turned him.

(And that damned "radar" and target lock in Multiplayer completely neutralizes the Jug's effectiveness, since all of those Spits (seems like EVERY damn fool is flying them in multiplayer!) know where you are at EVERY CONCEIVABLE SECOND!  These devices should be outlawed!  Outlawed, I say!  Give us simpler folks in the prettier planes a chance!)

And yeah, the P-47 is an anvil with wings (and a buncha guns) but she sho' is pretty, ain't she?

(Also, it's fun to load up with rockets before launching into multiplayer so when one of these kids in Spitfires try to come at you in a head-on attack, you can fire a few of them off!  Give them something to think about next time they try it!  Cheesy)

Yes, shes a heavy, but a beaut non the less!  Affectionatly called the 7 Ton Milk Jug!

I wish those radar things were off all the time.  It gives us 47 pilots less of an advantage.  We can't lurk around up top waiting for some unsupecting fool in a lesser aircraft to dive on and and send tumbling!  There's no surpise and that sucks...

I never enjoyed the Geoge, to slow a rate of fire.  I loved the P-38 in CFS2, not so much CFS3 cause of the Jug!  But all those fiftys and a 20 right up front!  Deadly accuricy!!!!  Never turn with her down low, use your speed, take a shot, go out passed your prey, and turn around for another lick.  Good ol' Fork Tailed Devil!!   Grin
