I just heard on the news that some cities around here are going to use Saturdays as makeup days for schooldays missed after the hurricane came through.
Why can't they just add a week to the end of the year like most places (or at least the schools I've been to) do? Hopefully they will decide against that idea here. I don't think I could stand 1 day weekends for 5 weeks.

We often get Saturdays here, the country is run by wallies!
I always teach Saturday morning anyways, its the only time some of my private students can get too me.
Bad luck

A whole 5 Saturdays.
Think yourself lucky. I had to attend school every Saturday morning for 6 years. They forgot to mention this when I applied to go there. LOL

haha bad luck.
chances of ever getting me out of bed for school on a saturday are zero, i could understand if it was because of something that was caused by human causes, but this was act of nature, nothing anyone could have done about it

and then ... you start work ... the project/proposal MUST go ouy by x date, so you work 7 to 11 -except weekends, 10-5 ... and every once in a while, you pull a 36-hour shift...
You get no sympathy from me ...

That's what prompted my post. Try 9 day shifts followed by three nights. You then get 2 days off and one of those days is the day you get home at 8 AM knackered....

It's just a drag to go into school on a saturdays when I usually do other things. If it happens to me, though, I'd put up with it. At least they wouldn't take away my national holidays like they did last year.
lol, ppl are wishing me bad luck.
That's a first for me.

For some of us "old folk" that have been out of (formal) school for decades - well, I would relish being 15-18 again, but knowing what I know now.
5 Saturdays during the regular school year are better than tacking a week at the end of the year, sometimes, your summer plans start the day after school ends, and a one week schoole extension means you missed that trip/opportunity...
My thoughts would be more - enjoy your school days while you can.

It's not like there are any decent Saturday morning cartoons anymore. So no big loss, eh?

Oso do they still show George of The Jungle on a Saturday morning? I used to love that, but it never got to Britain, so I've not seen it for about 23 years!

Sorry Ozmos. They took that off a long time ago. It is all just the Japanese import stuff now.

In that case I'm going to refuse to move back Stateside until they damn well do put back on the box one of the funniest cartoons ever made (after Road Runner and Tom & Jerry of course, and maybe some Daffy Duck)
I think I might be a cartoon-a-holic...... Mind you that makes two of us here. Romulus is also thus afflicted. In fact we once spent about a week chatting about Looney Tunes
