I have XP home working  properly and I understand that I can set up an account purely for Flight sim.

What I want is an account that won't recognise my internet connection or startup anything but Windows and flight Sim.

Any Clues?

Cheers in advance.

why don't you want to allow the flightsim access to the internet?

Do you not fly online, or even download weather???

It's simply to free up system resources Andrew.  I never fly online these days and my own weather is generally more fun than the real thing Grin.

I have found that with the Broad band connection I am losing about 5FPS at the graphics setting I like to fly at, this doesn't seem like much but it drops me from about 22/25 down to 17 on a clear area or 9-12 when it's busy.

It would also just be nice not to go through the hassle of switching loads of stuff off just to fly.

Right here you go. I use XP Pro, but if I remember correctly it is the same on XP Home.

Right-click My Computer, and select 'Manage'. In the left-hand side pane, click the plus sign next to Services and Applications. Click 'Services'. Check all the services listed in the right hand side pane. Look at the ones which say 'Started' in the Status column. You will have to look each of these services up on MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com). I'm sorry I don't have time to do it for you. Then when you have looked up the service and checked whether it is safe to disable, right click on the service and select Properties. Go to the Log On tab, and click the Disable button near the bottom. Then close the window.

Also remember to remove absolutely everything from the Startup folder in your start menu.

Please do tell me if this works - I would like to know. I hope this has solved your problem. If it has not, get back to me and I will research it further for you.

Jonathan

Many thanks Jonathon.  As soon as I get FS working at all I will try this out.

Righto, thats fine. I have just had an email from someone asking exactly the same question, and it worked for them. Apparently if you disable a service that will muck your system up, XP will say you have done it, but actually you haven't. In other words, it wont actually let you do something that is likely to damage your PC.

Always keep that XP disk in hand ...  Grin
