I talked with Pete about a suggstion that I had.... and he suggested that I post some messages to gauge the interest in this possible idea.

I was wondering if there is interest in setting up a Forum Section that is for the discussion of "Homebrew Cockpits".... in all the various aspects which that might entail. My concept of it is to focus on doing this without winning a Megabucks Lottery Wink

If this is of interest to you (or you are adamant that this is a BAD idea)....... please go to the FS2004 section and fill out the four choice poll that I set up there.

PS: I posted this here because there obviously would be some hardware issues and overlap. But those issues would be somewhat specialized... and not the general appeal type that tend to ge discussed here, I think.

Hmmm.. take a very large piece of cardboard and draw pictures of guages on it with a crayon and cut out a big hole in the center so the computer monitor can be seen? hehe

I'm not quite sure that I understand what a "Homebrew Cockpit" is.

Actually... I did post it there in FS2004 originally... but it got moved for some strange reason...and then I think it got moved again Wink

. I THINK it is located in the "General" section now. I think it spent a very little time in the Cafe section.... ....but I am not really sure. And I am not sure why there is not a "moved" message still in the fs2004 forum either. That's kinda' weird.

When I find it again...... I'll let you know Wink

. I found it once... after I just assumed that it was gone....... by a circuitous route that I don't remember now. The new location it is in makes some of the wording on the posts I did on it pretty much ineffective now. As you found out. Sorry. Oh well.

.....homebrew sim cockpits run all the way from just a somewhat logical table setup that makes things easier up to a LITERAL full motion 747 unit. It can be as simple as you like... or pretty much as elaborate. A lot is dictated by budget and available time, space, information flow, and skills.

I am looking to create a stand-alone small "cockpit" environment with some external gauges and displays, external control interfaces like switches and selectors, and possibly a dual front view display.... or something like that. Not even THINKING of going full motion. My own idea probably will involve a LAN with some "junker" type PC's driving some functions.

I am intrigued by doing some building and hardware tinkering and software coding and pushing a screwdriver and a soldering iron a bit and seeing what can be done. Probably some of my old HAM radio tinkering habit coming out Wink

PS: There is one guy I have read about somewhere on the net in the past couple of days that somehow bought a REAL jetliner cockpit... a 747 I think....... and has now turned it into a homebrew full motion simulator. That kinbd of stuff is REALLY getting kinda' "out there" Wink

. Wonder what HIS budget was?

Im not sure about this but I am almost positive that I saw something about it being required to be a little crazy to sign up here. I think its in the small print somewhere, and if its not IT SHOULD BE! LOL
