Now I know there are a few aircrafts (millitary types) that use that radar that tells you what heading, speed, and altitude AI airplanes are flying at.

The question is :

Is there an addon guage that allows you to put that radar in any kind of aircraft?

I would love to add that radar to the F14 Tomcat. It is the premeire interceptor aircarft that was not created with that tracking radar in it. That would just make my day if I could find something like that for this plane!

Hi
There's plenty panels with a TACAS radar (that's what you're looking for I think). It is quite common in airliner panels. If you know how to add gauges to a panel using for example CfgEdit you should have no problem.

So what you need to do is get CfgEdit (a program that allows you to modify panels, it is here at simviation), download a panel with a TACAS radar so you have the gauge and fit the gauge to any panel you want.

If this is not something you have done before there are people out here who might help you. I am not one of them however, I can do it but could not teach you.

In short the answer to your question is: yes, I think.

Good luck
AJ

Eric Marciano's original Mirage panel with the AI gauge is at the bottom of this page:
http://www.simviation.com/fs2002panels2.htm

If you don't already have a good panel editor, here is CfgEdit, the best as far as I know:
http://www.simviation.com/fsdesign_panels1.htm

It says it is intended for FS2000 and earlier, but I and many others use it with FS2002 with no problems.  Just set the path for FS2000 and direct it to your FS2002 folder.

There are also some other utilities on that page that might do you some good, such as the gauge repainter.

Sorry for the delay in reply guys. Duty calls, had an undisclosed inicident happen to me, while I was on patrol ( can't discuss it). So I have been busy for a couple of days. Not that case got closed my interests is back here.

I would very much like to be taught how to use that Cfgedit program in FS2002. Are you telling me that I can copy the A.I. Guage from that mirage panel and edit it onto the F14 Tomcat panel that I am currently using without damaging the F14 Panel or aircraft program? ???

I am caught at a lost here, but if that works I will be eternally greatful for assistance!  Shocked Besides I haven't got FS2004 yet and don't think I will purchase it until I get a new computer to enjoy the rich graphics in it. Abacus Flight Deck 3 has breathe new life into Fs2k2 for me that is why with the use of my favorite jet the F14 tomcat with the carrier, I would like to get this A.I. panel going in it!  Grin

Hi ender baron,

I downloaded Cfg editor v.1.5 and I don't want to install it without you running me through installation. I tried to install it and I didn't know whether to change the default path from (program file/Cfg edit) to (program files/Microsoftgames/Fs2002). I don't want to mess up my game so I cancelled installation.

PH_AJH I appreciate the assistance, but the AI guage file is what I was looking for. I saw those TCAS radars, that is not particularly what I was looking for. I want to install the guage to a fighter plane. Thanks for looking out though, I appreciate the help.

Be warned... it needs to be updated for FS2004, as it needs FSUIPC...

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

I usually install programs/utilities to their default path. This makes it much easier to locate them & install updates. The default path in this case is C:\Program Files\CfgEdit

CfgEdit is an excellent program although not fully compatible with FS2002. The preferences will need setting correctly to work with it. See my reply to your query, now moved to the Scenery Design forum. You will need a basic knowledge of panel design to use it properly.

The "radar" gauge I tried works well & comes with instructions for adding it to any panel manually in Notepad. This is usually a simple matter of Copy/Pasting the new entries into Panel.cfg & modifying them accordingly.

PS. The one I tried is AIMap. It worked well for me although some people report problems. There are alternatives posted here. http://hacksaws.fsgateway.com/fs2002_utilities.htm
It's possible these are also posted in the SimV Gauges section.

PPS. Install instructions for AIMap copied from the Readme. It's a proper gauge & does NOT need FSUIPC.

Quote:
INSTALLATION
Copy aimap.gau into the GAUGES directory where flight simulator is located.
Just add it in a panel you desire (737, Cessna), by editing the related
PANEL.CFG and adding a new Window as follow:

[Window Titles]
window00=Main Panel
window01=Radio Stack
Window02=GPS
window03=Throttle Quadrant
window04=Overhead Panel
window05=AIMap                        -< new line added

and after last window,  in this case  [Window04]:

[Window05]
size_mm=280,350
position=4
BACKGROUND_COLOR=255,255,16
VISIBLE=1
ident=AIMap

gauge00=aimap!ai_map, 0, 0,280,350

Pay attention to assign the correct  number to the window you just added.

Hello Hagar,

I went to that website and found the guage you were talking about. That AI radar looks confusing. But I also researched the simviation add-on panels and found the panel that had the radar I was using before.

http://www.simviation.com/fs2002panels11.htm

The F16 panel by Eric Marciano

The radar guage in this panel that show the flight tag, alt and speed and heading of the AI aircraft is what I am looking for. Can you use CFGedit or The manual method you described to copy this file into the f14 panel.

You can use either method. It would depend on how the panel is configured. If the radar gauge is on a pop-up window like the one I suggested you can copy/paste the entry from one Panel.cfg to the other. The window number might need changing.

That's great Mav. Well done. Wink

I think Ender Baron deserves more credit than me.
