I have owned CFS2 for a couple of years now, but really just started playing it. I got the X45 joystick and throttle control recently, so maybe that is why I have renewed interest in the game.

However, I am purchasing CFS3. Is it worth it?

If you have a very high spec machine, you will be OK with CFS3, however, it's not a patch on CFS2 if you ask me.

I agree completely with Hawkertempest5.
If you have a Formula 1 PC,CFS 3 will probably work.it deed on my machine.
However,I gave it away.In my humble opinion,it is a nice action game but not a simulator.
I will stick with cfs2

I agree.  I have both, and CFS2 is just fine for me.  I still think that the interface on CFS3 is butt-ugly.  The missions and campaigns are boring.  Save your money and buy FS 2004; now thats how a sim should look! Smiley

I too agree.  I have both games and have found that CFS2 is a better game overall as well.  CFS3 has nice graphics but I truly feel that that is the only way it is superior.  CFS2 has many more addons and is basically a lot more third-party friendly.  If you choose to get CFS3, you'll find that there aren't that many addons out there due to the new format Microsoft tried.

What I would do is ask yourself if you are happy with CFS2 and enjoy it?  Also, if you have completed all the campaign's it came with hadyou tried any of the addon campaign's (there are a ton out there)?  If you do like it, I'd stick with CFS2.  I have both and I find myself playing CFS2 a lot more than CFS3.

Anyway, I hope that was somewhat helpful.   Wink

don,t use 1 any more ,cfs 2 when i wanna dog fight,cfs3 when i wana do ground support 8).
i wish u could do crash landings with cfs2
i like the plane damage visuals in cfs2xa lot better than cfs3
but the rush of beeing wounded and trying to make it in in cfs 3 is way cool, except the @#$$# stuttering

I think if you have a fairly decent graphics card (Gforce4 ti or better) then get CFS3. I have had all the CFS series and I prefere CFS3 most. It just has more depth to it than CFS2. The damage effects are better, the aircraft look stunning, the reflections are superb and so are the prospects.

I rarely play CFS2 these days. CFS3 seems to do most things better. Although I do miss landing. Especially on carriers... Tongue

Actually, it's possible to do crash landing with a little reprograming to the missions.  I was making this change to the stocl missions and campaigns a while back but never found time to finish.  But, it is possible-a while back I made a set of missions where the point was to practice ditching in the ocean.

keep cfs2  Grin of course,
maybe buy a cheap version of e.a.w or il2 forgotten battles, for another taste of an expandable flight sim.
but buy fs2004 and load it with megescenery(from pc aviator) for a truly satisfying experience Grin

enjoy  Wink

I know where Woodlouse is coming from , possibly,  Wink

Overall, considering I've spent quite a bit of money and more or less re-built my system to play CFS3, Its now CFS2 at really silly settings, with anti alaising etc enabled thats now my main choice.

A consistent 30+ fps at low altitude, max detail, with plenty of action is what I always wanted with a combat flight sim and thanks to my ultimately fruitless quest in getting CFS3 to run well (never mind acceptable!) I now let it collect dust whilst CFS2 now really rocks!  Cheesy

Thats a "No" then.  Grin

Slowly but surely, CFS3 is winning me over.  I am loving the graphics now, Frame Rates are good, campaign system still sucks...

I say go for it.  Smiley

Scott McCloud:
You got that rigth, the fisheye point of view takes out some of the realism (at least in my humble opinion), ,CFS3 got a lot of candy eye stuff ( in another way) but it just don´t have the right stuff.
CFS2 (being 3 years old now) is still a great sim, lots of add ons, and can be tweaked in a way wich gives you non-combat sim experience but with teeth..
Anyway, beauty is in the eye of the beholder..and i think that this statement in this case is very true
best regards

I have all 3, but to me all the tweaking that is required just to make CFS3 run half-way allright was just not worth the trouble any longer. Besides the video settings on my Ti4200 setup to work with CFS3, screwed up the video settings for 2002and CFS2. After fiddling with the game for a couple of months I finally uninstalled CFS3.

you take cfs3 and throw it away.then you start saving for lock on,and 2 games out soon by maddox.and in the meantime maybe cfs2 is one of the best games you will ever play with a medium capacity cp by todays standards.aminx Angry
