Hey all! I have an IBM Thinkpad 390E which I use for school stuff such as powerpoint etc...

The other day i was using it and it was working fine.  About an hour later I came back and the cursor would go berserk whenever I tried to move it, and it is constantly trying to go up, sometimes down but never stays in one place.

It has a trackpoint mouse system with a little red cover on it.  replaced the cover with no change.  removed the keys around the stick and cleaned with an alcohol solution with no visible effect.  formatted the drive and reinstalled Windows (XP) with no change.

I'm open to any and all suggestions except throwing it out the window.  I have an exact duplicate system that I can use for parts (Since the screen hinge is broken...), so if someone knows how to get the keyboard out of the good system I could replace with the other one perhaps?

Let me know what y'all think...

Ok never mind, I asked a friend who had the same problem, and he was able to help me get the keyboard/trackpoint assembly out of the bad one, and into the good one! Now I have trackpoint again!
