It was disappointing to find little or nothing in the FS 2002 manuals and videos on basic manipulation of communication/navigation tools (excepting the +/- freq. setting)......The pop-up radio/nav. display allows on/off, standby, and selection buttons, but how, when, why, where (in a very basic sense) are they applied?......which nav. (1 or 2 or?) do I turn on to use the NDB detector (? over on the right side). a good description of VOR nav. is presented, but I find nothing on ILS....etc etc.......I am reading a selection of other books on these subjects, but still feel mystified by the FS2002 radio display.......Thanks for any help you can give me ???

That's also the reproach I would do to FS2002.
About the ILS, just have a lok at one of the topics of the first 3 pages, there should be something called "ILS tutorial", it is very well made.
For the rest, the only thing I do is trying to find more info via forums...and proceeding by trial and error.
Good luck to you!!

I'd be glad to answer some questions you have.
The on/off buttons I think you're referring to that stretch across the top or the radio window, or the bottom on the boeings. For the com it sets which com radio you're listening to com1 is normal. Simetimes for realism I'll tune an ATIS frequency on com2 to listen to weather or other traffic. MKR has to be on to hear the marker beacon sounds as you approach a runway with beacons. The others are intended to give you the ability to listen to the morse code of a VOR/NDB/DME to verify that you're receiving the correct one. Not really necessary, but done in real life I suppose. The nav1/nav2/NDB/DME only have to be turned on to hear the audible morse code "Idents".
Navs and Coms are sometimes setup with Active/Standby. You tune the standby then swap it to active.
The frequencies are changed by hovering the mouse curser over the number to get "+/-" You can use the scroll wheel or click when you get "+/-". I think if you click the bottom half of the number it decreases, the top half increases. I use the scroll wheel, not all mice have them. If you like the keyboard hit "F10" to bring up the kneeboard then click the tab for keyboard shortcuts. It's sometimes tricky using the keyboard for radio frequencies but it can be done.
Nav 1 is what you should use, Nav 2 is useful if you're practicing tracking radials to intersections.
The ADF (NDB detector) is tuned with the ADF radio. Usually just 3-digit whole-number frequecies.

Many thanks to Heber.....you have given me enough to get started with NAV/COM/VOR/NDB/DME/ADF......I'm sure that I can cope now with a bit of experimenting.. ....It sure would be nice if I could read the fine printing on all the radio shack without a magnifying glass...Oh well, enough for now.
