So one of the women in my office felt it was appropriate to bring her 8 or 9 year old daughter to work with her.
As if this isn't bad enough, she then leaves for periods at a time, and leaves the daughter sitting in the office, without saying a word, as if to imply that we, her co-workers, are expected to babysit her child.
Now, school has just come back into session, which means that this girl, who shouldn't be here to begin with, has homework to do. So now, as if I don't dislike my job enough, I've got to do it while I hear this girl read aloud.
Is it me, or has the workplace become a daycare center? I understand that women want to work, and I understand that you want to be treated equally. (I single out women in this instance only because the woman in question is a single mother.)
However, if you can not find someone to take care of your child, don't expect me to do it for you. It's not my child, and it's not my responsibility to watch after her when you can not do so yourself.
Let's just imagine for a moment that there's a fire, or even a fire alarm. God forbid something happen to your child. But what if it does? Whose responsibility was it to ensure that this child is safely evacuated from the building, because you ditched her here while you went to another office in the building? I'm certainly not going to look after her, because I've got enough stuff that I'm required to do in that scenario.
Folks, don't bring your kids to work. They don't belong there anymore than your dog does.
Great edit, Bob.&&&&&&Google it. &&&&

My rant of the day.... 8)...!
Talking about families, the Internet, and little children...
Tonight when I logged-on, I opened up my Outlook Express, as you do, only to find yet another twenty downloads of pornagraph images, some involving young ladies and varous animals for me, my children, grand-children and great-grand-children to see...
...!
...and all this courtesy of America-On-Line, the Family Internet Program, and the American Freedom Of Speech Act courtesy of Florida ....
...
Thank-you very much, AOL...!
The American music industry are quick enough to declare downloading music files illeglal but NOBODY in America does anything to make generating, distributing, and downloading Porn, originating in Florida, onto my computer, illegal...
...!
I now have to set my Outlook Express to MAXIMUM security which means that I don't get any mail from anyone now...
...!
...that's my BIG Rant Of The Day.... 8)...!
Cheers all...
...!
Paul.

Foz. How exactly does AOL come into this?
The last I heard you're with Freeserve. ???
I know AOL can be blamed for a lot of things but the mail comes through their own browser. This automatically intercepts a lot of this stuff which should reduce the amount of spam. I haven't used Outlook Express for years.

Hi Doug...!
Yep...My "Browser/Server" is "Freeserve" but the mail I get through my "Outlook Express" comes via other Servers and in the case of the Porno Mail it comes mostly from xxx123zzz@aol.com...!
At one time it was possible to block it via "Message Rules" when the sender had a recognisable name, but now the names are made-up of random letters and numbers for similar, or identical mail, which makes it impossible to block...!
There is just too much of it...!
My Server, Freeserve, tell me that they cannot block my mail themselves, I have to do it in every case...
...!
Cheers Doug...!

At least with AOL I can delete any mail I don't recognise without even reading it. As I remember, this is not possible with OE.

Hi Doug...!
I can do that through Outlook Express, 'trubble is, I have to manually block and delete 20 or more porno messages/images manually every time I log-on...!
I can't be arsed with all this clicking malarky every bleedin' night...
...!
There seems to be no way of stopping it arriving in the first place...!
98% of my mail are now Porn images, the remaining 2% are for "whatsit" enlargements or Viagra adverts....
Now that I've got Maximum Security Settings on I don't even get any mail from Family/Friends any more...Boo-Hoo...
...!
The best/secure way of getting mail/pictures/etc, now is via SimV Instant Message posts...
...!
Cheers Doug...

P.S I look upon my Freeserve Browser, and my Outlook Express Mail Box, as two seperate, independant programs....?

Yes, your "Freeserve" browser is actually M$ Internet Explorer & your mail program is M$ Outlook Express so if anybody is to blame it's Mr Gates. The AOL browser is completely different. It's based on Netscape Navigator & works as both mail program & browser. I find it useless for browsing & use it for e-mail only. I fire up IE6 for that purpose. Complicated ain't it? LOL
PS. This charming invitation came in while I was typing my reply. All I need to do is click the delete button to dump it without even opening it.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no!
Just because it says @aol.com behind the address doesn't mean that's where it really came from!
In fact, in the cases of spam, it's usually not an authentic domain at all.
What happens is this, and I really don't understand this myself, but I know it's possible from an experience I witnessed with someone else.
Spammers will either create on, or put on your computer what is called a "proxy server", and they use your computer to generate spam. To the recipient, it looks like an authentic email, but the name that it came from didn't really send it.
The case I referred to earlier was that of my girlfriend's brother, who had his AOL email account suspended because they claimed he sent 34,000 emails in a single day. (I know.)
So don't blame AOL, even if it IS an AOL email address. Chances are, the person you received the email from is nothing but the host for this parasite!

But none of this addresses your rant mate. Try telling her what you think and see what happens... With today's effed up society you'll probably end up needing a lawyer if you do tho'.

Scott, there are two kinds of people in this world. Those with kids, and those without. This may sound like obvious "verbal masturbation", and before I became a parent, if someone said a statement like this to me, I would probably have rolled my eyes. But, you just have to have kids to understand. All the comparisons and metaphors and theorizing can not even approach what the experience is like. I'm not making excuses for bad, or inconsiderate parents, but there are some things you just learn to accept as a parent. It always amazes me when I get angry looks from people in restaurants, when my 2yo daughter lets out a blood curdling scream of protest. I don't know if I want to smack her on the butt, or these people in the face! "She's two! She obviously doesn't posess the patience we, as adults, do! Get over it!!" ....................oooorrrr If you work at an office with multiple floors, try telling her theres a Justin Timberlake Fan club chapter on another floor!!
.....so I loaded up the plane and moved to Middle-EEEE..........OIL..that is......

I have a four year old and I agree with most of your post Ottol. I don't however bring her into work with me. If my colleagues brought their children into work with them and there was an expectation for me to watch them I would complain and because of that I agree with Hyperion.
Many parents feel that their lifestyle choice means that the rest of society somehow owes them something. My work place is plagued by women who think that their status as mothers means they have a right to seven weeks paid leave in the summer and all the weekends and night duties off. This leaves me and the single girls working three weekends out of four, 6-8 nightshifts a month and I haven't been able to get a week off since february.
The system is crap and if no one stands up and says that somethings are just going too far there will be no end of it.
ie:
"Ladies and gentlemen this is your captain speaking, we are currently in a holding pattern over New York because the ATC are all busy feeding their kids and I'm changing my daughters nappy(diaper). When we can all be bothered to concentrate on our jobs I'll get around to landing this thing......"

Well, I agree that some sort of tolerance is needed, but I don't think that it should be expected.
I'll gladly be her babysitter while I'm at work, but at a cost. The only volunteer work I do is done because I WANT to do it, not because I'm expected to.

Hi Andrew...!
I hate the thought of having to change my E-Mail address....I've got to quite like it...'trubble is all the spammers like it as well...
...!
I often wonder if the spammers trawl through Sites like this to obtain our addresses.
Long ago I removed my address from my Profile for that very reason, but maybe it's too late now...all the world and his dog know it by now...
...!
As for all the porno stuff which keeps flooding my mail-box, maybe it's because my christian name is part of my mail address...(only a bloke would be interested in this stuff???)....
...!
Wether changing the name@ part of the address would reduce the Viagra/ Get A Big Willy/ Big Girls With Web-Cams/ spam I don't know...?
Or should I just sit here and observe it and slowly go blind in the process... 8)...!
LOL...LOL...LOL...!
Cheers Mate..

Fozzer, a good way to keep spam out of your inbox is to set up your email to only accept emails from people you know. (This can bite ya if you're "expecting" mail from someone new, but it's a good tool nonetheless.)
As for the last part of your comment, all I'll say is this.
"One man's trash is another man's treasure."

Hi Hyp...
There are only a few people that I know who occasionally E-Mail me....(sad, innit..)...

All the other mail I get is spam mail which I have to Block and Delete individually every day...
Do you use Outlook Express, and if so what is the route to take in that program to only allow my friends mail to get into my Inbox?
My Server tells me that they cannot block selected incoming mail at their end...
