I thought i would post this for those like myself who have been stressed out with    fixes, drivers, updates, settings, tips, and on and on its been enough to drive a flight sim nut crazy.but i went out and bought the gforce 5200 and installed the update driver right out of the box.and i was really amazed at the diffrence in what i had been missing in the sim useing the ati 9000.for me the diffrence is like night and day.there are just to many improvments to list.but the 2 main problems i had with the 9000 was fog and clouds.the clouds was half there with a straight line down the middle of the cloud and fog was white buildings and white trees didnt look any thing like fog.and i tried every fix and driver there was out there to correct the problem.i paid 150$ a year ago for the ati 9000 and i got the 5200 for 100$ today so if you have an ATI card and haveing problems like i was.my fix tip for you is pull it out put it on the shelf like my ati 9000 is and hope for a new driver before next year and hope it fixes all the problems.but if you want to see the sim the way it was intended to be seen today then get a nividia card.allso i really havent had a problem with fps with either card but tried the get more fps right now fix posted in this forum and with the ati card i got nothing out of it.but tried it with the nividia 5200 and its just as they say.i am set at 30 fps and holding a steddy 30 fps and as advertized in the post every thing maxed out but clouds i have them set at 50% 3D with the clouds maxed out ill drop down to 25 to 20 fps.and i have probley a middle of the road computer as far as peformance goes.see my system spec below.
p.s since this topic has been moved this information applies to the fs9 simulator

AMD 1.4ghz
30gigHD
Shuttel AK32E motherboard
1gig ram
winxp home edition
soundblaster 512 suround sound

To sum it up if your useing an ATI card either hang in there with it till a new driver comes out or get a video card that will work thats my fix tip for the day.

Welcome to the dark side........ Cheesy
Looks nice when everything isn't white anymore doesn't it?

Got that 5200 card myself, you'll do ok with it. I havn't had any real problems with mine.

Like Blue1820, I have used both and find the Nvidia superior. I had a bought a Radeon 8500LE and had nothing but problems with it. I traded it in for an FX5200, no problems at all.

im sure the 5200 will be obsolete before 2006 and there will be a more advanced card out capable of much better and probably at a cheaper price Cheesy

HI Chelo,

Ive left a post on this thread

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=COF;action=display;num=106...

It only works on the ati 9000, 9100
(some say it didn't work for them)

Let me know how you get on.

Havoc.

SUCCESSSSS!
Thank you Havoc, it worked like a charm. The horizon haze is back, I am so happy! I am uninstalling FS2002 as we speak, there is no real reason to go back. FS2004 runs better than FS2002 in my computer.
I owe you a beer, man.
Regards,

And I was blaming ATI on this horizon haze issue. It seems like MS's fault. Thanks again.

Thanks for the offer of a beer.............As a matter of fact I'm having one right now Smiley

If you could email it to me, that would be great.........In fact, if you could work that one out, you'd make a bloody fotune.

Just out of interest. How long have you been serching for a fix for that problem?

Glad to help. (but it wasn't my fix really Embarrassed)

Ey Havoc,
I have been looking for the fix for eons (the first week after FS2004 release). I think somebody should spread the word more broadly.
Cheers,

???I am considering the GeForce FX 5200 or the VisionTek Xtasy 9200 AGP cards.  Both have 128 mb.  Any advice from those with experience using the FX 5200?  Any feedback about installation issues or updates?
