I just purchased Abacus Flight Deck III for Fs2k2 Grin. I wanted to know if there was anyone out there, that has experience using this program that can assist me with a problem I am having with it. Cry

1) The book says press shift+9 to engage the catapult and a message will come up saying it is armed.

"I did that and can never get it to arm"  Angry

Yet the first time I used the program I saw a message stating the nearest active catapult is at N35 E35 s23 or some crap like that. Coordinates to the active catapult. I missed the exact coordinates so I didn't know which one it was.

2) Is it possible to use other addon aircrafts with this Carrier catapult system or am I stuck using the ugly aircrafts that came with this program. "Abacus claims they are so detailed... NOT Angry"

For now I am going to just go over the Readme file again. I could use some much appreciated help with this program from someone with experience using it. I will come back later tonight to check for any posts.

I thank anyone assisting me in advance.

Hi Mav, okay here are the answers;
1) For the catapult to arm, your nose wheel has to be on the end of the track, so just taxi into position and do shift F9 (at least on ArrCab it was F9).
2) Yup you can use any nosewheeled aircraft, not tail-draggers or helicopters! I've even got a 747 off the deck before Grin

I had similar problems when I first installed, problems turned out to be connected with fsuipc.dll; I think CD3 comes with one version, but I had downloaded an updated version.  I just needed to register that and my problems were solved!

As the inimitable Ozzy says, you can use a variety of aircraft, as long as they are not taildraggers.  My turn to ask a question though!  I tried downloading the Charles De Gaulle carrier (can't remember the site now), but it kept crashing my pc; has anybody managed to overcome this problem? ???

Roll Eyes I feel so silly! Thanks Ozzy I was pressing shift +9 instead of F9 Shocked! I found out I could use any of my favorite fighter planes on this carrier too. Like a Grumman F14 that looks way better then the crap that came with FD3. I used the rocket effects from the F16 pak on this f14 to do a bombing run in Iraq!

Thanks Ozzy, Taurus, and Andy G. for your help!

Now I have to practice carrier landings ???! I made one successful landing, but my poor F14 had the back end fall through the ground surface when I landed.  Grin But hey I made it back alive  8)!

Wish I could help you out with your problem Andy, but I have no experience with that Carrier. I am using the aircraft carrier George Washington that came with Flight Deck 3. Maybe Ozzy can help you! Smiley

Gotta go now, Think I will bust the tower at over 150 knots in my Tomcat  Wink Grin

Shocked Hey almost forgot to ask.. Ozzy do you know if there are any addon patches from abacus that gives the CVN George Washington an ATC (air traffic control) designation. I wish I could ask for permission to take off and land and hear the ever popular "Your 3 quarters of a mile call the ball". I very much doubt you'll ever hear this but it would be cool.

The hairs on my back stand up when I try to land on the FD3 carrier. It is like I am coming in too fast at 120 knots and 100 ft off the surface. I can feel the speed and plus it is hard to line up with the carrier deck at 62.5 ft above the surface!

Any suggestions  ???!

Grin Grin Grin I agree with you on that.  I didn't like them either and fly with the aircraft that I like.

FD3 is a lot of fun to use, and I am still getting used to it.
My nickname gets a lot of use when flying on FD3.  See a lot of the Rescue chopper  lol

Hi Splash,

Helicopters are way too easy to land on a carrier! Fighter jets are a totally different thing. It definately takes practice  Cry!

Hell it took me a while to figure out how to take off with the catapult! ??? Then I remembered seeing and now knowing why the jets taking off carriers have flaps down and tail fins in the pulled back position...to get lift after launch Wink!

Now when it comes to landing, my secret method is to take off from the carrier in a straight line. That way the GPS yellow line marker leaves a trace to show which direction the carrier is traveling. I use that yellow line to approach the carrier from the other direction to get a bearing on the landing strip.

Still doesn't help much because I have to make atleast one fly by to get an actual look at the carriers position, then make a final approach! Shocked Then I dookie in my pants, when I make a final off line and land then come to astop right at the very edge of the deck! 8)

Takes Practice man, Lots of practice!

Grin Grin Grin  Yep, I use the gps method as well, since I can get lost pretty quick  lol

I actually am gettin' pretty good, even have a few "three wire" catches, but probably more luck than anything.  Usually nosewheel at the edge, starin' down a steep drop. They usually put a steel curtain for me when I am landing.l   I have Janes F18 as well "Call the Ball" which is very enjoyable.  Usually lose a couple of pounds on a flight, and I aint kiddin'.  Stressed and Sweatin'  lol

Lots of Fun and like you said Practice, Practice, Practice

Sad bummer man

I wrote an email to Abacus info box to see if they got anything in the works. I will let you guys know what they tell me, when I get word from them. Until then I guess I will have to talk to myself and make believe. Pretty sad huh  Cry Anyhow I am really sucking at landing, so far I have been lining up properly but I can't get the height and speed locked down to make the final touch down.

I know the deck is 67ft above sea level, but approaching at 235ft above sea level the jet looks like it is going to hit the rear of the carrier  Shocked. But just as I get to the rear of the carrier I can see I am too high and I try to slam down on the deck Shocked! Unfortunately for me the first time I bounced off the deck and was able to afterburn back into the sky  Grin. But the second attempt was a doozy, I came down way too hard and crashed on the deck. Then my jet fell into the crago hold of the carrier and blew up Cry not a pretty sight. Embarrassed

I will get back at it again tonight, but I think I will take my Camanche 4 out of the hanger and go after some drug cartels! I will keep you guys posted on Abacus's response.  8)

Peace out MAV  Wink
