In the latest issue of a certain aviation sim magazine I read the following:

"The lack of CFS3 add-ons may well reflect the widespread sense of disappointment users have expressed with Microsoft's latest combat sim,........"

From what I've read on this forum those who have gotten CFS3 to run are very pleased with the sim and I like to believe its just the complexity of building aircraft for CFS3 that has prevented the release of new aircraft.
What do you think is holding up the CFS3 aircraft that you want?

Without a doubt gmax is the problem. It is difficult to master, so a lot of designers are having to go back to basics, however some awesome add-on aircraft have appeared already so I guess the author of this article is a professional journalist, e.g. doesn't have a clue what he's talking about Roll Eyes

I'm a noob to CFS 3, but an old hand at CFS1 and 2. I'd read the reviews and waited till I got a new system before parting with the cash for this game, but I have to say I'm not dissapointed. CFS3 certainly seems to have a lot more scope than its previous installments, which, despite some of the excellent third party aircraft available, didnt really lend themselves well to bomber operations. I was a bit disheartened by the apparent lack of third party aircraft and scenery available for CFS3, but I guess its still early days. Despite that, the B-17 Beta that recently got released is encouraging. Works fine for me...And I've read the posts about this eagerly awaited Avro Lancaster as well, cant wait to try that one out. Another thing I'm hoping someone will have a go at is a Heinkel III, Groundcrew did an excellent example for CFS2, one of my favourite third party aircraft of all time. How about a CFS3 version Groundcrew team ? I actually need one for a Historical mission I'm writing based on the first Air raid over mainland UK during ww2...but then I also need some Scotland scenery as well so it may take a while. Might just have to create my own...Anyway, I look forward to seeing whats on offer sometime soon. Cheers for now.

You bet, we have an all new He111 in the works, beside many other aircraft. Just takes time to get all the bells and wisthles in.
You know, there´s no excuse this time around to leave stock features out since we have full blown SDK support this time around (re the journalists quote mentioned above:))

Any idea on the He-111s release? I am doing a BoB German fighter pilot mission set and would love to use the He-111. I wil follow that with a bomber set. I am waiting for other stuff being developed as well. Mine will have correct planes oder nicht! Can't find my German Destroyer book. You know the commissioning date for T-17? Have used the T-boats in both my large mission sets and quick missions for new AvH plane releases. They are super. Hope for more type ships for correct mission building. Thanks for the quality stuff from GC. It appreciated by all.

Bob, i tried sending you a message but I'm not sure it sent...so just to be sure, I'll post it here. Commisioning date for the T-17 Destroyer was August 28th 1941.
Heres a useful link.

Here another reason why G-max is probably the problem.  Go here to read a technical notice sent to G-max users:

Thanks macstu23, I finally got it and responded. I still can't locate my book on German DDs, but found the web site Kreigsmarine which gives a brief run down on WWI and WWII German warships, very breif, but one is commissining dates. Still hoping Greg Law will add to his three nice ships with a M Class type escort vessel, the most numerous German of this type. Would like to get into Gmax, but with all my CFS3 time building 1% type missions and others doing such a great job in those other areas, I am sticking, for now, where I make the better contribution from me.

Interesting you should metion the M class minesweeper. (At least I think that's what you are talking about. I have one in my game as a main model only and untextured at this stage. It always seems to turn up in my conveys as an escort. Lovely boat it is. I will see if I can get it out for you. I was just thinking to day I might do the texture for it. (Really)

Now my problem is my Gmax won't load the CFS3 exporter. I can't seem to find the reason for this. Still if I ask Mathias nicely he might help.

I think the answer to the lack of CFS3 addons is the complexity of the models and there setup. Gmax is really good when you get to know it. But that's only one part of the process. For me the texture mapping is a nightmare. This is where all my aircraft projects have stopped. Ships are a different story. I have got side tracked with drive able ships. This gets back to the complexity of aircraft when you go there.
also I think the quality bar is so high these days it puts off a lot of new people giving it a go.  I for one worry about putting out my stuff that I now isn't up to Mathias's standard.
