Are there any of the cool fighters from the WWII era around?  I looked on the download page here and the military fighters all seem to be jets, both for 2004 and for 2002.  I would love to get a 2004 compatible version of a P38 Lightning or P47 Thunderbolt, 2 of my favorite fighters of the period.

Check the vintage section.

Remember - FS9 is still "young" and developers are still coming to grips with the subtle changes.

Krzysztof Malinowski has made some good Japanese warbirds, and a GMAX p-40... cowl flaps don't move on some.
He has some Ju-88G's too (WW2 nightfighter)

There is a Zero with it's modifications in GMAX, full animations and one floatplane (Rufe)

Polikarpov I-16

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

What exactly are the subtle changes for ACOF?

Exactly - we won't know until the SDKs are released.  So far it appears that the way the graphics engine handles reflections/transparencies is slightly different; there appear to be some flight dynamics effects - some things are being found like cowl flaps do not operate on non-piston engine airplanes, so they can't be used as separate animation tags...

Yes, I know I may be jumping the gun, but I am really hoping to be able to fly a P-38.  Making my own just isn't in the cards for one as graphically challenged as I am.  I will keep looking...

For anyone interested, David is hoping to have his P-38 night fighter ready for COF next month.  Here's the URL for his site.

His 2002 P-38L with the patch is flyable, but it is still a bit twitchy.  Takes a steady hand.  Nice fast twin engine aircraft though.   Cheesy  Here it is:

There are a number of FS2k2 P-38s available both here and at various other sights, most of them should work in ACOF.
I don't know if CFS2 birds will work in ACOF or not, but they work in FS2k2.
