Mods, please forgive me. I wasn't sure which topic to post this in, because it could realistically go in so many.
I'm consdering a repaint of something to honor each and every person, passenger or crew, who has given their lives in flight, because each one sacrificed themselves so that the rest of us could be a little safer.
However, I don't want to just blatently pick an aircraft, I want it to have some significance. Does anyone have any suggestions on which commercial airliner I should use? I've already got the paint scheme in my mind, it's just the aircraft I'm not sure of.

Some suggestions:
- 747, POSKY or meljet, has LOTS of space to paint on so you can make it more detailed
- 777, AFAIK still a clean crash record (does that matter?) and loads of space to paint on
- A340-600, loads of m
2
to paint
Russian planes:
IL-76 (all standard length ones)
,
Tu-154 and Il-62
,
Tu-134
and
An-24RV

go for a 707. this airliner was one of the first really successful and modern passenger aircraft in the world. otherwise,go for a 747.

Hmm...a 707....Melikes the logic of this. I think the 707 and the 747 are leading contenders right now...unless someone comes up with something better. lol

I would be inclined to go for the 747, as it is the epitome of the progress made by mankind in the area of Passenger (and cargo) flight.
Although there are many Miliarty aircraft that could be referred to as the epitome of progress there, I think those who died, did it for the betterment of mankind, to bring people closer together, rather than the destruction which is, unfortunately, a part of the Military application of flight.
P.S. Don't forget Sir Charles Kingsford Smith..........

i'm all for bringing people closer together on planes, but good god would it kill them to implement some shower rule with it, been stuck next to some very unpleasant individuals before.
now onto the actual topic
i think the 747 says it all in terms aviation, its big fast and its one of the most famous planes flying.
until you bring concorde into the mix, ask people to name a passenger plane, it'll either be a jumbo jet (747) or it'll be concorde. it may not have as much room but it would be a great platform for this project. the only supersonic aircraft in service, it to soon will be a memory, and what better a way to remember those lost than with concorde

I agree with the significance you presented, Craig, but my only concern about the SST would have to be the lack of real space to work with. Your logic was definitely right on, though. Maybe I'll try one just to see what it looks like. Thanks!

cool. thats why i mentioned the room, sadly its a difficult plane to work with in that respect.
i would def go with a 747 if you dont have any luck with concorde:)
then again you could use my personal baby. The DC10;)

the feelings mutual:) great minds think alike:)
its a beautiful plane, and its definatly going to be a sad day when it is retired for good.
although like i have said before, if i do get my job as an airline pilot and make captain i will pick up a DC10-30, by then they will be cheap'ish, prob looking in the $500,000 area, which coupled with a captains salary should make a loan avaliable, fix it up, deck it out in first or business class seats and then when it isnt in personal use lend it out to any willing airline, who could sell off the seats at economy rates. pleanty of people would love to fly first, god knows i would but just cant afford $2000 for something thats only a few hours long. so i'd like to give them a chance to experiance it, on an amazing plane

That's bizarre. One thing I've always wanted to do is to run an airline which flies nothing but first class seating. Sort of the nemesis to Southwest and JetBlue. But in my plan, I would only charge coach prices, and make up the loss in volume.
I've had that plan for years, and I've never told a soul. Strange.

whats an average price for economy seating long haul?
i would like that to be charged and when you figure a 10's costs over seats you should break even, just:)

Well lets see...I'll use my former employer for this one.
If I were to buy a ticket today on Continental, for the following itinerary:
Newark to Los Angeles(EWR>LAX) 30 SEP 03
Coach ticket: $520.50
First Class ticket: $2,549.50
So say I charge $1,000 for that seat in my "all 1st Class" airline.
I'm going to take all the first class traffic from the other carriers, and make a fortune.
With one small snag that I've yet to be able to overcome.
Without coach passengers around, will people still want to fly first class? Many first class passengers travel that way just to look good. But if there's no one to compare yourself to...hmmm...

thats why i would have a lower base price for everyone, thenfirst class passengers still get their seats(business's who pay for it would look at you more because of the cheaper seats so more business there) and coach passengers would want to go with ya because of the cheaper cost for the pleasure of first class seating.
need to work out, how many seats you'd get in, i'd imagine at most 50 first class seats or 80 business, in a DC10 maybe a few more. on a flight of say 3 hours or less, you could charge $350 a seat, maybe a little more than southwest jetblue and song but your getting first class,
3 to 5 hours $600 a seat and then 5 to 10 hours $800. those figures should make you a profit and should with the right marketing bring in all ranges of customers.
