OK, I bought CFS3 a long time ago and never really got into it-so I just set it aside.  Today, I found it and decided to give it another run.  I have downloaded the latest patch and everything-I think (version 3.1) but I'm having some glitch issues.  I'm running the sliders almost all the way up and the game isn't hardly choopy atall except ocassionally it won't load some of the scenery-it just appears white.  Here's what I'm seeing:

...

I don't know if this is a common problem or what (I haven't been following CFS3 at all).  Anyway, here are my system specs if that will help:

AMD Athlon XP2500 Processor
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB Video Card
512MB PC2700 RAM
120GB Hard Drive
52x CD-ROM
Windows XP (could this be the problem?-is there an XP patch?-it seems to new of a game for that  Wink)

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think its a RAM issue even though you do have 512mb of the stuff. Make sure both sticks are firmly in place and consider getting more.

Ya know, I lowered the sliders a little and haven't had the problem.  The weird thing is the game wasn't choopy at all.

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

When the CFS3 came out first I bought a copy and have had a series of serious problems with the game. After reading all the articles associated with the CFS3 problems, I only got more confused about it reliability. I decided to return the copy (got my money back) after one furstration after another. For sure my PC exceeded the recommended requirements listed and so I discounted anything wrong with the hardware. In the meantime I read and analyzed all the comments regarding the pros and cons of the game.

After almost a year I decided to buy a brand new copy of CFS3 ($25.00) hoping that all or most of the bugs have been corrected. I'm somewhat skeptical regarding the drop in price however because the game was selling for $ 49.99 not too long ago. Is it because it was a lemon to start with that they dropped the price to get rid of it ?  I'll let you know.

Hi RichieB 16,

Update your ATI Radeon 9500 drivers to the latest Catalyst 3.6. I have a Radeon 9700 Pro and was getting texture corruption similar to what you posted. They started addressing this issue with the release of the Catalyst 3.4 which fixed it but you may as well get the latest version. I have the 3.6s installed and don't get that texture corruption anymore. And make sure you have the latest MS DirectX 9(b) installed as well.

And since you've already installed the CFS3.1 patch you may as well get the CFS3.1 No_CD patch here at Simviation. It's reported that it can speed things up a bit and it sure beats popping that d@mn CD in the drive everytime you want to fly.

And at first, try your sliders at 3 or 4 until you get it looking right. I have all mine set to 4 except for the clouds which I set to 3.

At the Microsoft CFS3 Insider website they have some recommended tweaks as far as Dual Pass Rendering etc. is concerned. And look under the Video Card Problems FAQs while you're there.

Good luck.

I got the latest ATI drivers and Direct X9.0b and was still having that problem.  But, I turned down all the sliders to 4 instead of 5 and its working perfectly.
