Hello all. I have all three FS games. They are all good.
Here comes the real problem. Hopefully some of you have Windows XP Pro and then maybe some of you have Windows 98 plus. Both are good but there is one drawback to the XP. It takes more memory to run FS on XP than it does to run Win 98. Even if you do a Compact insallation. Now I have 256 MB or RAM and a 40 gig hard drive and it is still slow, at least it makes all my other programs run slow. I like the new FS2004 I think it is cool in a way with weather, gps, detailed airports.
The only thing that I'm saddened about are all the old planes. Some of them are nice but perconally I can go without. Please do not get  me wrong I'm not putting down FS produsts or the community this is just my opinion and problem with XP. Have a wonderful day.

BoingBoy, the compact install will run slower than a max install, because it has to load from CD instead of the faster hard drive. Plus, you dont have to fuss about having the CD with a max install, so that is generally better.  However you are so right on XPs RAM requirement, I guess it needs so much because it has all those secret utilities purring away unseen.  That's why I prefer W98se, personally.

I find that most programs, including FS2k2, run significantly faster on XP than on ME.  I had huge problems XP for about a year and for a while flitted between the two.  Since getting Broadband and being able to update automatically things (seem!!) are OK.

I get 10-20 FPS on XP with all the settings on maximum and it was 2-12 on ME with the same edition drivers.

GTA3, Mafia and various other games also run either faster or at the same speed on higher graphic settings.

XP is a resourse hog but it does seem better than ME.

Hi folks,

I have been using XP (home) for several months now and I think it is reasonably good.  As far as resource hogging is concerned - when I am using FS 2002 I activate "End it All".   This can be obtained here.........

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,28189,00.asp

This version 2 is shareware.  I am still using the original version which was released in 1999 - as freeware and still works ok on Windows XP.  Apart from its use with FS 2002 it is excellent to close all running applications before installing software etc.

After using "End it all," be sure that you restart your computer when you have finished .

Regards
Roger
