Well said Will. In today's world, morality seems to get flushed down the toilet. These people are not normal, and they will never be normal. Although I have never used Amazon, I know for sure I will never us it or any of it's sponsors until this kind of filth is removed forever.

I know these people form personal experiance. I once had a teacher that comitted statutory rape of a 12 year old girl. He has since been convicted and I'm glad it was nobody I knew.

In today's society there is a lot of pressure to let our most basic morals, instincs, and traditions just fly out the window. It happens all to often it Toronto. Someone gets arrested for child porn and you see 300lb police officers crying and needing to seek psychiatric help after having to collect the evidence.

I'm tempted to do what Hyperion did. I may send a copy of this thread to Toronto's largest News Talk radio station and to some major news papers. I refuse to live in a world that allows this kind of thing to go on. Let the world know how you feel on this issue. Boycotte Amazon. I would also recomend sending a letter to your congress man or MP so we can get the government to focus on more important issues at hand.

To what address may I sent my complaints to Amazon themselves?

Not sure of an addy, but if you go to www.amazon.com, there's a page for "Contact Us" and you can submit your email directly through the site.

Unfortunately, you can't really send it to your congressperson or other government representative, especially here in the US.

They do have a first ammendment right to write and sell this book.

However, does that make it ethical?  Absolutely not.  We can try to get Amazon to pull it, but we can't get the government to squash it.

Our constitution states "Freedom of Expression". However the way the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms was set up allows certain exceptions. I think this may fall under thoes exceptions.

This whole thing falls under one of our oldest rules. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

I agree, Orenda.  My parents used to always tell my sister and I, "For every right, there's a responsibility."

Very true here, as well.

There is a freedom of speech, however.....

Child molestation is illegal, and people found guilty get to spend a LOT of time in prison. Now shouldn't writing a book trying to promote this kind of lifestyle be illegal also?

You could also argue that they're putting even more children at risk

Nope.  I can write a book about how to mass murder busloads of orphans, and I can't be arrested for it, because I'm not actually doing it.

However, if this book were to be written describing actual events and those responsible are revealed, we're talking about something entirely different.

My suspicion though is that the book was written in very vague terms as far as offender identification.

You know, I am so sick of people like this clothing their perversions in the first amendment.  Yes, free speech, but people need to get their heads out of their collective a$$es and realize that freedom of speech does not mean freedom to promote deviant lifestyles or criminal activities.

The same thing goes for the gun manufacturers.  People think that because the constitution gives them the right to own weapons, they should be able to go out and buy fully automatic weapons and anti-tank rifles.

Let's get real here...

Read it again, Pip...Andrew wasn't using that as an excuse.  The context it was used in was that those who publish this book will try to use that as justification.

Andrew actually went on to say that there must be a way around that defense, which there is.

Unfortunately, it can't come from a governmental body, it's got to come from the people, which is what all of us who tell Amazon.com and the media what we think of these kinds of acts are doing.... Smiley

You could try suggesting this story to 60 Minutes on the CBS website, and with something like this, you never know

We may have found the answer to the question "How dumb can you get?" Amazing.

Being a vet, I subscribe to a simple solution: don't buy it and encourage other to do the same. Informing Amazon about a ban is handling things of this nature correctly.  Treat this no different TV programs that you do not agree with. Some people just need to learn how to turn the TV off, or change the channel.

Censorship is bad, even wen the subject matter is replusive. When the first person looses their right - even if richly deserved, it opens the flood gates. Censorship is as evil as the junk it tries to "protect us" from.

Since guns were mentioned, I own several. None of them have ever suddenly jumped out of the gun cabinet and discharged without the help of a person.  They are neither good or bad, the same as a car. Just because people kill while driving drunk doesn't mean we should outlaw cars or alchol. This has already been mentioned: with a rights come responsibility.

I'm done, sorry for getting long winded. Opinons are like noses, everyone has one and they all smell - including mine. Smiley

Pip-You QUOTED Andrew.  lol

Jes-I'm confused about where you're standing on this one.  Are you saying that the best thing to do with this is to just "change the channel" (to use your television analogy)?

The reason I ask is because the television analogy is fatally flawed.

In fact, if someone were on television promoting pedophilia as a "healthy lifestyle choice", as this book is, the station would receive an entire box full of FCC citations.  It would no longer be a matter of "changing the channel", as you suggest.

Censorship is defined as follows:

1.  One of two officials in ancient Rome responsible for taking the public census and supervising public behavior and morals.

2.  A person authorized to examine books, films, or other material and to remove or suppress what is considered morally, politically, or otherwise objectionable.

In this case, no one is suggesting governmental intervention.  To the contrary, I've suggested that the people protest.  This is not, by definition, censorship.

Additionally, only one of a naive demeanor would realistically believe that we don't live with censorship every day.  (This is not directed at you, sir.)

Everything we hear, watch, or read has passed through an entire system of censors.  This is the reason that we can not hear the "Seven Deadly Words" on television or radio.  It is also the reason tobacco companies can not utilize television or radio for advertisement.

There are countless examples of how we as Americans are censored on a daily basis.  This is clearly not a case of censorship.

It's a case of individuals standing up and saying that we're not going to sacrifice the integrity of our morals in the name of profit.
