this is one of my favs and today i was a bit curious about what they were singing about (they sing so fast i only caught a few words the first time i heard the song) anyway, i went out looking for the lyrics and..... well, judge for urselves Grin

-=Aces High=-

There goes the siren that warns of the air raid
Then comes the sound of the guns sending flak
Out for the scramble we've got to get airborne
Got to get up for the coming attack.

Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines
Remove all the wheelblocks there's no time to waste
Gathering speed as we head down the runway
Gotta get airborne before it's too late.

Running, scrambling, flying
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Running, scrambling, flying
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live. Aces high.

Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers
Let off a sharp burst and then turn away
Roll over, spin round and come in behind them
Move to their blindsides and firing again.

Bandits at 8 O'clock move in behind us
Ten ME - 109's out of the sun
Ascending and turning our spitfires to face them
Heading straight for them I press down my guns

Rolling, turning, diving
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Rolling, turning, diving
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live, Aces high.

im guessing Ozzy wll love this song Wink Roll Eyes

now, guess who sings it!!!! (Fly2e knows....)

Space, I already replied to your link, but just for the record, the Song is Aces High and it's by Iron Maiden. One of my favourite Maiden tracks.

We were discussing Bruce Dickenson being a pilot now in your other thread, I was just doing a little research and discovered that "Aces High" was actually written by Steve Harris, who played bass and did most of the songwriting for Maiden, it seems Bruce didn't even share credit for that particular track.

lol thats rather strange, if he (Bruce) didnt have anything to do with the song (funny 'cause almost every pilot knows about the spit and its wonders, even more a british pilot...) then where did steve get the idea??? i mean, he didnt get it from history class now did he?!?!

A lot of their songs from around that time were battle songs, 'The Trooper', 'Die with your boots on', 'The Duelists' all written mostly by Harris, I guess he must have been into that sort of thing at that point in his life.

Now there was some artwork.  Was the trooper the poster with the British Napoleonic soldier on it?

I think The Trooper is my all time favourite Maiden track. I used to have this really cool Picture Disc single of that song back in the days when records where on vinyl. It was shaped around the picture of Eddie, the Iron Maiden mascot guy on all the artwork, with that British flag in Crimean war uniform.
I sold all my Iron Maiden records apart from a couple of albums about ten years ago to pay for something or other and got about £100 for the lot. I had everything, all the rare stuff, worth about three times what I got.
Wish I'd not sold them now. Cry

I still have all my AC/DC, Sabbath, Scorpions, Rainbow, Judas Priest, Guns 'n Roses (amongst others) stuff and I've picked up a number of Iron Maiden records from time to time, but some of that stuff I sold I'll likely never, ever see again.
