I have a real crazy problem. I am trying to run CFS 1 on my XP with a Nvida 64 mb DDR GeForce 4 MX 420 with TV-out (Dell). I start the sim and I get audio and no video. Sometimes it get video, with a small screen, I get to Free Flight, Quick Combat etc, make an aircraft selection, click "ok", I get screen that says "Wait while sim loads" then it goes back to the desk top. I have updated the video drivers, directx, and set the resolution at 1024, 16 bit. I have reinstalled several times. Still nothing, any ideas.

What is your desktop resolution? I don't have XP but CFS1 likes it set at High Color (16 bit).

16 bit is where it is at and the background is all shut off.

I tried a different CD and it seems to work, mostly.  The cockpit panels look good but the sky is layered, the ground is little squares and I have to reset the joystick at the start of each session.

I know that XP Home does not like CFS1.  I have tried it on my wifes machine as well as mine and it kicks me out of a mission and back to the desktop regularly, just a click and no more game!  I have also had display problems with green seas, and white squares for gunsites although I have got that fairly well licked at the moment by only running one add on package at a time. I am thinking that it is time to start flying in IL-2 and to retire CFS1. Just as a matter of interest, since getting my machine with XP Home on it, I have had to upgrade my Microsoft Force Feedback Joystick version 1, because MS only support Version 2, ditch my Lotus Smartsuite Millenium, because it wont work in XP, buy another digital camera because XP will not support the early model one I had, and retire my Reb Baron 3D software. That is why I bought Il-2 instead of CFS3 the other week.

Good luck.

I use XP Pro unfortunately, so I can't help you with problems in XP Home. All I can say is that FS98, FS2004, CFS1 and CFS3 all run fine on my machine.

I have used XP Home for over a year now and I have had no problems whatsoever with CFS1, FS2002 and FS2004.
