Take a trip over to the fs2004 forum and look at the thread about improving framerates would this not be the case too for CFS3, it may cure the many problems that people have had????????

Jon look at the tweaks thread just above this post, you'll find a host of useful information.

I think I may have figured out when CFS3 is so choppy after I installed my Geforce FX5200. The card isn't on the list of supported cards. I'm going to try and figure out how to solve this.

I already have the 45.02 drivers. The hammer sounds tempting.  Wink I couldn't find how to do it JonVic's way. There doesn't seem to be a CFS3.cfg file.

The thing is guys that i do not have CFS3 as i have been putting off buying it because of the fear of all the performance problems i have been seeing on the forums. Therefore i do not have any way of checking if this works. However when i saw the FS2004 thread i though that if fs2004 has this graphics card listing issue is it not fair to assume that CFS3 may have this too? If it does i will buy the game cause i really want to. So somebody have a go and see if it works it could be just the breakthrough for all the CFS3 performance issues

I've found the new 45.23 drivers have made a big improvement with CFS3!

Its still not anything like as smooth as I'd want but its playable at least..........

JonVic,

Wait a little while longer and you should be able to pick up a copy of CFS3 from the "Bargain Bin" at BestBuy for just a couple bucks.  Cheesy

Are you this cautious in all of your purchases? It's only a combat flight simulator/game. Excuse me if I'm out of line because perhaps you're really strapped for money but frugality has its downside too, like denying yourself the pleasure of the combat flight simulator while you drag your feet as to when or whether to buy it.

To get any recently released flight simulator to play well you're going to need a pretty fast computer. I have a P4_2.6GHz, 512MBs of RDRAM and a Radeon 9700 Pro (3Dmark2001 SE benchmark = 14,237) and although CFS3 runs fairly well on it I sure wish that it would run a lot better. Even with a top of the line P4_3.2GHz, 1GB of RAM and a Radeon 9800 Pro which benchmarks in the mid 17,000s you still won't be able to max out everything in your video card's control panel and CFS3's display options under all circumstances and not suffer some annoying framerate slowdowns. Flight simulators are notorious for being resource hogs, it's the nature of the beast.

You can pick up a used copy at Amazon for as low as $17.99 or a brand new copy for $28.99. I imagine Ebay probably has a copy or two for around $5.00.

All the tweaks in the world can't make up for raw horsepower. Tweaking is just about trading off graphic quality/eye candy for performance/FPS and no matter how you cut it, tweaking CFS3 will only have a slight positive effect around the edges.

Good luck.

I did what 4_Series_Scania did. I had the new drivers installed before for COF but then I got the idea to do a complete reinstall of CFS3. Well needless to say, the game still shutters a bit but I can pull high speed manouvers in the default craft without the fps slowing down too much. It's a lot smoother.

I think the problem may lie in the fact that CFS3 is not entirely compatible with FX cards.
