I checked my mail today and recieved about 20 messages from addresses hosted at FS related sites.  They all have attachments (I checked the properties and found that they are all the same file sizes) and have subjects like "Thank you!", "RE: Details", and "Your Details".  Of course I didn't open any of them.  Roll Eyes  I'm sure I didn't get that popular over night in the FS community.  Tongue lol

Some of the sites that the sender addresses are from include flightsim.com, simflight.com and simmarket.com.

Did anyone else here get this?

Since I posted this (about 2 mins ago  Roll Eyes) I recieved another 3 or 4 emails.  This time one came from Flight1.com.

I was searching some other forums to see if anyone else posted about this.  I found this at flightsimnetwork.  Looks like I'm going to be flooded with these untill Sept. 9.  Tongue

See here for more information on this virus:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sobig.f@mm.html

If you have Norton antivirus, 8-19-03's (8-18-03's Beta) virus definitions will spot the virus.

/Benjamin

EDIT: Changed Virus Definition Date to correct date

I heard there is a new virus that attacks systems weakened by the MSBlaser. So far this virus has shut down the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario's drivers licence renewal kiosks and is being blamed for difficulties in restoring our power grid. Further damaging our power grid? The guy creating these should have his private parts hooked up to a 220V electrical socket. I think that's what's called "poetic justice".  Grin

I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday. I received about 40 of them. I have noticed that some of them are from people that had downloaded a plane or two that I have made and had emailed me before

I got about 100 of them in 3-4 hours.  They're still coming.  I updated all my McAfee virus definitions and ran a full scan.  Nothing.  I got the Symantec fix and it said it couldn't find it.

Searched for the files and registry entries.  Nothing.

For now I'm filtering them by subject (Thank you!, Re:Application, Wicked Screensaver, etc.) but I'm wondering if some servers are infected.

One of them even claimed it came from FSTipster@hotmail.com!

Yeah, I've been getting them about 1 every 5 minutes today.  I've found some "from" interesting addresses, including FSTipster@hotmail.com.  Just a minute ago, I found one from nels@flightsim.com (fs.com's webmaster).  Roll Eyes

Go here for info

This is the SoBig virus. It spoofs e-mail addresses and saturates the network. Trying to bring down the Internet.

No one is targeting the sim community, per se. Just anyone who is on line and not protected.

Yeah, I've been getting a lot of these too (and deleting them).  What makes me mad is that I have been getting so many so fast that it excedds my file size limit for my e-mail (4MB yahoo account) and my account freezes until I delete them.

Anyway, I have had an inbox full of 30 or more e-mails everytime I checked for the last day or so.  But, I just checked it and there was only 1 e-mail and it was a letter from a friend-none of the virus infected letters.  Maybe, this whole thing has just ended.

Yes, it's the SoBig virus, and it's being reported around the world as the fastest ever spread of a virus.

Just check your emails carefully, run the Removal Tool at Symantec.com, and you're good to go.

Or if you don't feel like doing all that, hang out til September 10th, when it will self destruct.

Great edit, Bob.&&&&&&Google it. &&&&www.google.com
