Hagar just so you know: I'm with you.
I followed this post from the beginning and cannot understand either why someone wants to use FSedit. It stinks. From the beginning mine wouldn't load any panels to modify. As soon as I clicked on a panel the program would close. At the present moment it closes even earlier: as soon as I try to load the aircraft list.
I found out a lot of people have this problem, which has something to do with the number of aircraft in your folder.
Anyway. As far as I know the main reason for an airplane not to show up in the list is a fault somewhere in the aircraft.cfg file. This could be as simple as a spelling mistake in the file that comes with the downloaded aircraft. This happended to me a few times and I have always been able to solve it without FSedit. Taking a good look at the entries in the .cfg never hurt anyone I pressume. Thit way you learn what to look for, in preparation of the day your FSedit will let you down.
Question: this Cfgedit program, will it work in 2k2? In the downloads section it says it'for '98 and 2k.
Cheers
AJ

Thanks AJ. Many aircraft have aliased panel and/or sound which can also cause problems. Re-aliasing Panel.cfg or Sound.cfg to a default aircraft should fix that.
CfgEdit works fine for FS2002 if you select the FS2000 option & redirect the path to your FS2002 main directory. It won't read the latest XML gauges, for example SimIcons.CAB. A little manual editing of Panel.cfg will soon fix that.

Hi Fella's,
Well what a topic!!!!
Sorry to cause so much controversy amoungst fellow avaiators.
Unfortunately, I only have the FS2002 STD edition which does'nt provide the FSEdit.
But as everyone agrees, aircraft not showing up in FS, has to do with the aircraft.cfg.
Like a lot of others, I'm still only learning when it coes to .cfg editing, so excuse me for taking advantage and asking so many questions.
I have a copy of most tutorials regarding my questions, but something must be amiss somewhere along the line.
I shall see if I can rectify my problems.
I would like to thank you all for your input/advice on this issue.

Hagar, last a/c this happened with, and it is the first for a long time, was rcsb25k2.zip I think from Fsfreeware about 2 weeks ago. It is however 52mb download and obviously an installer is used. I was prepared to do that because I wanted that particular a/c.
As for FSedit I don't go near it at all now, now I know a small bit more about things in files, as I'm of the same opinion that it is a bucket of rubbish. I'm still learning bit by bit but I'd rather be travelling than spending time than editing files so that is what I do.
Next time I have a file not work I'll come and ask about it some more.
Anyhow the posts were at least worth something to others out there that might be a bit shy in asking questions and they know more about FSedit now than they did before. Cheers

OK Colin. This turned out to be an interesting discussion. Sorry, I wouldn't download a 52 Mb file for myself on my 56k dial-up, particularly from another site. My limit these days is10 Mb. LOL
If you have installation problems in future, post them here.
