LMAO Gilbers....yes, I know who you are, and no, you don't need to connect to anything bro...
Just fly it as you would any other flight. We're not flying it online.
I'm still confused though...how is it an around the US race if we're only flying to New Orleans?
I say postpone this until we're clear on what's going on. Anyone else?

It's around the US in a sort of "Across the US" kind of way. It got kind of complicated trying to work things out, so the Seattle/New Orleans diagonal route was born.

Yes, but then why are our routes so secret? Everyone knows where we're going!
Obviously, you're going to want to take a direct heading out of SEA towards MSY (New Orleans)....
Plus you're flying over like 5 of the cities we need to hit en route to MSY!!!

Ok, Hyp. Yes, we are taking a straight route to New Orleans, but the actual places you go to land and the routes you take either over or around certain obstacles (large cities, mountains, etc.) affects your flying time considerably, so the actual trip will be a little different. Plus, you aren't going to be flying in one single, continuous flight. You land at an airport, and that adds time to your flight. The more times you land, the longer your total flight time is going to be.
The reason for keeping your trip route secret is that if we are posting them every day, one or more of us may end up being behind by a good margin. As a result, we might end up flying more in one sitting than we would normally. Keeping the route secret adds a bit of realism to the flight because you don't know exactly where everyone else is on the flight. Keeps the excitement up a little, I imagine.
I agree with postponing this for a little. I myself am having a few issues with FS right now. Mainly its the aircraft I am using. The H-1. Very hard to taxi in it, and the engine is wrong. So I am going to spend some time tweaking it, and perhaps make another *.air file for it. Lets stop for the moment and work on the logistics until everyone is clear on the concepts.

Just to clarify....
So, the shortest times between several legs of the total trip, in a (normal man's) aircraft, wins?
Taking into account actually planning each leg and not only travel time, but ATC instructions that might add some time, and also taxiing and parking times. Then setting up the aircraft for the best range and performance possible.
Assuming you use no weather, the Planning part would be the key. A person would actually have to use their head, and think about it.
Very clever.

All excellent points that should go into the organization of the race, Fish...
In fact, I had some of those thoughts myself. The one thing I kept thinking was, I'm starting at the terminal, so my taxi time will slow me down if everyone else is starting on the active...
It's going to have to be insanely planned and thought out in order to work at all...

Just to confuse things
How about downloading real time weather, if the flights are on a (same) daily basis then differences in weather won't be that great, and will be more or less evened out over the full journey. If flights are at scheduled times then all weather would be equal.
Won't someone just take the Concorde?
PS
Sorry if I've missed the point of this thread.

Well, the original idea I had came from the inability to fly online or download realtime weather. I run FS on a seperate machine, so anything like that is inaccessible for me.

Ender_Baron, do you have an inability to get the machine on the 'net, or do you just not want to put it on the web at all? If you have any connection at all, you can use Serial cables or even USB cables to network...
Serial might be slow, but I used to fly online using 26k dialup.
I jsut got cable, and my main machine crapped out.

The idea for that machine is that it is a standalone. With the current virus problems, I guess my decision was a good one.
Too many things and programs on that computer that I can't risk having eaten by a virus.

Heh... I have been computering for 4 years now, and have never once had a virus.
Yout just have to use the right tools.
And, backing things up helps a lot.
I understand the standalone, though. If I didn't have my SCSI array for backing stuff up, I probably would have a standalone machine as well.
Just remember, with a standalone machine, you won't be able to update software.

Well, it seems to me that the only software he'd want to update is antivirus software, which he won't need on a standalone.
If there should be another application which he wishes to update, then I suppose there are other ways to accomplish this.
