Here are a couple of shots of the Government Flying Service buildings. It's an area at the end of the new apron as far from the main terminal as you can get.

Beyond it there's a factory area with its own quayside.

...

...

Not that many people would pay too much attention to it by I think it's quite an important feature. It's more or less done.

Yep, the good ole FS2002 scenery comes on, but don't ask when it'll be finished. It's becoming more than a life's work.

I have in mind to release it in upgradable stages but it's my first proper scenery and the job is far huger than I ever realised. There's a minimum that has to be there in the first stage and I'm still not quite there yet so I still can't give you an answer about when it'll be finished. I tried to a few weeks ago but it's impossible to work on it non-stop. You know what it's like, wife, family and the need to earn money all seem to get in the way!

FS2004 is a problem I haven't tried it yet but I can see no reason why the scenery itself shouldn't work with some reservations because of the work I had to do on the water.

However, I've got a bgl facilities file that has all the navaids in it (ils, markers) that don't exist in either 2002 or 2004. Because of the way 2004 is designed, I don't think this will work at the moment although the decoders I'm sure will find out how to in due course.

Also a really detailed AFCAD file that includes the Aero Club for the light GA stuff (Baron, 172, 182) and that won't work yet as far as I'm aware in 2004.

Same goes for the Voicepack. I've got Kai Tak in all the voices and that I think is not yet compatible with 2004 although I saw something on the Voicepack website which looked encouraging.

There's a lot that we still don't know about in FS2004 for totally customised scenery like this where everything is new - scenery, AFCAD, comms, navaids, I've had to use CoastLineMaker and LMDraw to to do the water and I don't even know whether they work in FS2004.

However, It'll all become clearer in the fullness of time!

Thought everyone knew. I've been working on it for 7 or 8 months now. I'm well along the way but still don't have quite enough to publish. It's the most detailed Kai Tak that has ever been done - my own personal tribute.

Do a search on Kai Tak on the forums here and you'll see quite a few screen shots, although Pete has probably deleted some of the earlier ones.

It's based on photographs of the airport and it's surroundings and it's accurate enough for people who know the area or flew in and out as pilots or pax to be able to recognise it without too much difficulty.

Have you talked to Thomas Kwong aka the former Kai Tak scenery master?

He may be able to give you a hand.

BTW is your scenery all GMAX?

I really miss the IGS13 approach in FS2004.

errr..GMax, what's that?

No, if I'd taken the time to learn GMax we'd be well into the next millennium before this scenery was finished.

Actually, it doesn't make too much difference as most of the buildings are 'square', except for the GFS radome tower. I might re-do that in the fullness of time.

No, haven't been in contact with Thomas. The only objecs of his that may have been of any use would have been the terminals and I want to do those myself. Good though Thomas's FS2000 scenery was, everything else of his wouldn't have fitted into mine at all and I understand he lost all of his Kai Tak stuff anyway at about release 3 because of a computer crash.

I'll be putting some 'work-in-progress' shots onto my website soon but the page isn't finished yet.
