I have the same problem like hikariken.
I installed Gmax like he did it.
I also get the error message. What to do ?
Thanks

"I have installed FS2002 profesional edition copletely. but in gmax directories does not appear the files. only the folders are present. so I run winzip and I unzip the files Gmax.cab in the 2nd disk. I have got the gamepack files I copy in my gmax main directory as said at the start of topic. but as I try to expot my model in .MDL it always saying that Makemdl is not found orMakeMDL can't convert the files in .MDL. an I have some files without type. I dont understand because I have got the last version of gmax and all files that are needed.
what should i do? " from hikariken, Jun 27th, 2003, 12:56pm

Most 'makemdl.exe not found"  errors are not because the program can't find makemdl , but rather something else.

What does the error log say?  The error log is a text file with the same name as the model ...  but with "log" as the suffix.  (ex.  mymodel.log)

Open this file in a text editor.  You will probably find something like "co-located vertices in part xxxx"

If so, go back to the gmax scene, select the "offending part", in the modify tab, vertex sub-object, choose "weld" and set the tolerance to about  .001.

Save the scene and reexport....

If it's something else, then... post the contents of the log file.

"MakeMDL was not found, or failed to convert the model specified in 'C:\Programme\GMax\gamepacks\CFS3\test" to a .mdl file. Check your system path to ensure MakeMDL is on it."

This is the error shown in GMax.
Bute MakMDL.exe and the other file are in CFS3\plugins like the others. i did everything right.
HELP!

It has been a while since I have run into this error but as I recall it has something to do with the way something is textured. You may have 2 textures assigned to the same poly or a deleted material assigned to that poly. Try splitting the part, in this case, box01, and remapping your textures.

Have you welded the vertices for the part?

I'm from Germany.
Sorry, but I don't know what welded means.
But it's not important.
I think it has to do something with changing polygons or vertices...

But I can make a new file with only one box.
And if I want to export this file there is the same
error in the log file but with other numbers
in the breaks.
But I didn't chang the box !
Is it better if I would upload the file so
that you could follow me better and find the mistake ?

I thought there was a problem with the version of GMAX that came with FS2K2 Pro and you had to go to the GMAX website to get the working version.  That is what I did after loading FS2K2 but I don't remember where I saw the information regarding the version that came with FS.

I have version 1.2 which is the same version that came with FS9/COF/2K4

Thanks.
I'll Download a newer version of gmax at the discreet site.
I also don't know where you can see the version of gmax.
I will post here again when I know if it works with the newer version.

The current version of gmax is 1.2.

You can see the version on the splash screen as it opens, and on the "about" menu selection.

But I have the same error in the newer version.
I really don't know what the mistake is.
Should I Upload the model so that you can find the error ?

I will send you then my x-wing as .rar (58kb).

I REALLY WANNA MAKE AN MODEL FOR FS2002

Helo.
Felix wrote about the possibilitys to make an own aircraft.
He wrote the following:

"To actually create the flyable mdl file, you need the FSexport.dll
that comes only in the FS2002 professional edition. "

So I noticed that I don't have any dll files.
I have a newer version of makemdl.exe from the makemdl SDK and the FSModelExp.dle file from FS2002Pro.
But there is no dll and really no dll called FSexport.dll.
Is this the reason to my error ?

Thanks
