The only problem with most of these suggestions is that they involve vehicles which are, compared to your average airliner, relatively easy to drive.

This means that you're not going to have the same effect that F$ has. There are no landings in a Corvette, no altitude changes in a boat. About the only thing I can think of that might be even remotely challenging is perhaps a cruise ship, but even that moves at such ridiculously slow speeds that I can't think it would be an exciting game.

F$ got its reputation as a sim for being challenging, and being something very complex. You can't compare having to know flap settings, AP settings, airspeed laws, airspace restrictions, trim wheels, engine gauges, FSI's, GPS's, VOR's, NDB's, DME's, ILS, IFR, VFR, and all the other aspects of flying that I don't have time to type with "the speed limit is 65 mph".

IMHO, there's just no comparison here...

No, but it is kind of interesting when a 60 ton truck gets going down a 30% grade in Colorado somewhere. The tendency to jacknife is pretty high. Driving a truck is not just a matter of learning to drive a larger vehicle. There are literally hundreds of regulations you must consider, route planning (so your 13' 7" truck doesn't go under a 13' 5" bridge), fuel consumption, driver fatigue, dealing with morons like me who can't stand to be behind anyone... The list could go on and on. I'm sure Scania can back me up on this. It's complicated work.

Have you checked out "Hard Truck-18 Wheels of Steel"?
I'm pretty sure you would like it, especially if you have a steering wheel and pedals, it's the closest thing to a truck driving simulator that I know of, much better than the previous 'Hard Truck' titles and not an arcade game like the truck games for the consoles.
With a price tag of only $20.00 USD, it's very well worth the price.

You actually do have to deal with most of this stuff in "18 wheels of steel".

BTW, My Dad has also been a truck driver his whole life and still is, except instead of traveling the whole U.S. like he used to, he just delivers around the Michigan/Ohio area these days.
He was gone so much when I was growing up that I don't remember having a real conversation with him until I was 25 years old!

When a sim comes out that can reflect the potential consequences of getting it wrong with 38,44 or even 60 ton's behind you, I'll be the first in the queue.

I just wish as a matter of routine, normal car drivers had to try a truck as part of their lessons, then, perhaps us truckers may just get a little respect out on the roads...... (Something lacking from 90% of fellow road users!) Roll Eyes

Hey,4_Series_Scania I think everyone should be made to ride a motorcycle for 12mths before they drive anything else. I've got friends who are truckdrivers AND m/cycle riders and we all have a common complaint--car drivers.

Nooo, I wasn't implying that a truck is just a "larger vehicle"....sorry if that's how it came across.

But what I'm saying is that a lot of things involved in driving, no matter what kind of vehicle you're driving, are based on the sense of touch. You can feel if you're in a wrong gear, you can sense when your power steering goes...these things can't accurately be simulated, ya know?

Flying has so many things to learn that are visual. That's why it has sold so well.

I'm really waiting for a Fly/Train Sim. Like you fly from Europe in to Canada,travel the Canadian/Pacific rail then fly Vancouver/Tokyo/Beijing then board the TransSiberia to Moscow flying into London at trips end.

Mind you if M$ came up with a Fly/Drive deal in a discount package I'd go for 6 nights in the UK instead!! Grin

How about if you have a sim where you drive from home to the dispatchers office, take a semi from Chicago to Des Moines, load your cargo onto a train, take it to St. Louis, then fly it to London? Grin

You can drive (by yourself) in FS2k2, use the mbvito or the followme car in the misc. downloads (2k i think), also there are some coast guard cutters (2k2 misc) and a fishing boat so you can do some boating too -- not that much to do though, and I wouldnt want to do a cross country drive.
