after saving, formating and resizing, they look
like crap!!! The saved clips don't look good,
and then they really go sour!!!
????????anyone??????????

Ozzy; when I get through, you can nix this mess!!

This shot when I'm flying is breath taking!!!
But not when it's here??????????

What are you using to resize it? If you are just shrinking it then you will get a loss in clarity. You should make sure that you are actually resizing the images pixels.

So if you are using Photoshop or something, try resizing the image by pixels...

Another factor will be the program you are using to grab images and what resolution that is set too.

Shot #2 is 1024x768 and over 325 kb....it is definately not as small (file size) as you think......I think your prob is started at the Screenshot level.....first you need a good screenshot utility....go get MW MultiGrab from Martin Wright Graphics........http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/

You ask why the file shrinks when uploading ?....I have never had that happen....if I make a 43kb image, it posts at 43kb..........

Then get yourself a good image manip prog if you don't already have one.........the industry standard now is Photoshop 7 but you can do well with PaintShop Pro if you think Adobe charges too much for the best program.....In Photoshop you have the ability to save for the web which entails setting the image size and file size and its your choice as to how much detail loss you can stand with compression..........those jaggies must be in the original (screen capture) if they are coming out in the final minimized file........I too lose some quality on mine, but I choose the compression level which keeps me well within the forum guidelines and allows me a few more images per post.........

BRAD........

Please check file size of posted image by right clicking on the image and reading in "Properties"...       ...divide the number of bytes by 1024 to get your total KB's.....

I do appologize for saying you posted over 325 kb when it is actually 318.5986328125 kb's........my guess was incorrect and needed to post accurate info.......

Rifleman,

Tried multigrab, caused lock every time, I
hit printscreen and gave strange pics after
restart?? Went back to GCS and nothing
has changed, I still show that shot as +/-
64k, yet in my clip folder it is 414K????
I'm going to look at everything agin??????
All my shots are showing up about 1/4 of
what I upload!!

did you install all the necessary dll's with the Multigrab ? that may cause a lockup if you didn't ?......I have no trouble with MW's stuff and I run a screen res of 1600x1200 when I fly....captures my shots fine.......

everything was working good then, I don't
know what has happened or what I have changed??
I did install the dll's as per instructions.
Is the last shot a lot better or am I seeing things,
It looks ++++ better than the others to me!!!
Just looked at the pics agin and the last one loaded
a lot larger that the 800/600 I uploaded???????

Rifleman;

I think I fixed the problem!!
Walmart connect has changed to
a "art" format and it reduces image
files by 75% to help bandwidth!
there is a setting to go back to
JPG and Bitmap formats!!!
Now mine look good on the forum
and everyone elses looks even better
so I'm still stuck with bad shots!!!
I couldn't figure out why people were
saying such nice things about some real
DOG pictures and now they ARE REAL
NICE PICS!!!

When you save your screenshots, first thing you need to do it to resize the image......800x600 or less......not sure what you are using for an image manip prog but you need to be able to specify the physical dimensions, then you can alter the file size by stating the amount of jpg compression you are prepared to allow with the quality degradation that you see in a preview window....
If you can't control these two things, then are going to have trouble with your images that you post........one more thing.......if you set your quality to max for your screenshot utility, you will have more to work with in terms of maximizing "image quality" and minimizing "file size" for posting...........

Don't know what else to tell you, other than come to your place and install Photoshop, MultiGrab and AcDSee, and then show you how I do it myself...........

dunno if anyone else tries this approach but here goes...

in photoshop 7 which i use currently after print screen button i alt +tab back to windows and fire up photoshop.. i create a new picture and set the pixels to 800x600 and then paste the 1024x 768 shot into it (current resolution) it will not resize the frame to suit the resolution but will kinda chop off the sides to make the screenie 800x600 .....thus no loss of detail apart from background (bits of sky and grass that no one likes anyways) Cheesy   any suggestions on how to improve on this? resizing results in detail loss.

HY2001, if you want some help with Photoshop, I have specific instructions for minimizing image and file size in the thread marked "File Sizes" near the top of this forum........step by step explanation text and images showing how you should see your screen......I did that with P'shop 6 but it still applies to 7 and if you need further help with it, don't hesitate to call on me.....reducing image and file size usually won't drastically affect your final image in P'shop.........look at my posts to see, I fly at 1600x1200 and resize down from that ........
