I may have solved our model problems.
I was browsing through my FS2002.cfg when I noticed a section on multiplayer. If we change a couple of things people might not need to download all the planes.

This method will slow all the computers right down Mitchel. Its quicker if everyone dl's the planes.

Do you mean CSL? Or FS Host?
As far as I can make out, CSL is the name of a file and we might need to make our own.
Not sure about FS Host.

Yes, CSL..that's it.  Someone had mentioned that if we've all got that, and most who use VATSIM do, then we'll be able to see everyone else.  Perhaps this is a better alternative to installing all the planes?

Gents;

I D/L'd and installed the CSL. My aircraft list in FS is now HUGE!! CSL adds them all under "Unspecified". The only adverse effects it causes, that I can see is it takes the sim a little longer to start up, and shut down, now. I couldn't see any real slowdowns in frame rates, though.

The CSL wouldn't do much difference then. The planes still need to be downloaded except they are a little more compact.

I haven't decided yet, Hype. I guess that's still to be determined.

Erie;
The sim shows examples of the CSL aircraft in the aircraft list, and they have the very basic textures. Some logos, but mostly simple shapes, so you can recognize a Cessna from a Beechcraft. But the list is large, to be sure. Almost everything is depicted. (Even a C-5!)  Grin

I'm still really getting aquainted with Squakbox and the Do's and Don'ts of Vatsim. Flying a military Heavy, IFR, is slightly more involved than taking a C152 for some touch and goes, VFR.  Shocked

Maybe I'll get it down, soon. It would be a big blow to my ego if I went to set the C-5 down, in front of all those people at the show, and biff it.  Embarrassed
Wouldn't be a good example of American Pilotmanship, now would it?  Tongue

Hey you guys, been awhile since I've posted. Well anyways a CSL file would definately help people with slower systems like me. What you do is find a simple model of each of the aircraft that will be used in the show (something like a high quality FS98 aircraft) then you alias it to a specific aircraft type. So then what happens is the pilot will use whatever model he wants (detailed or not) but everyone watching the show will see the simpler model which will save them on FPS. It's kinda the same theroy as AI aircraft. The simpler the better. It definately help people with slow PC's like myself. As for my lawn chair...I don't have time to do it. I need to work on the Excel and I haven't even been doing that. So I was wondering if any good modellers out there wanna give it a go? Just an idea.

Justin
