Quote:MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq: NWAC - News) today urged customers traveling to, from or connecting through its Memphis, Tenn. hub to postpone their travel from today to this Wednesday through Sunday.
The airline made the recommendation today to its customers due to a power outage caused by a severe storm in the Memphis area that has already resulted in the cancellation, delay or diversion of most of the morning, afternoon and evening arrivals and departures operated by Northwest and its Northwest Airlink partners. Northwest continues to monitor the effect of the power outage on its Memphis schedule.
Northwest will re-accommodate customers scheduled to travel today, to flights scheduled through and including Sunday, July 27, 2003, without any penalty or change fee, subject to availability and rules of their fare. Northwest is urging customers to check the status of their flight through its Web site at
www.nwa.com , or its automated flight information line at 1-800-441-1818. Through nwa.com, customers can also take advantage of the airline's convenient flight status notification options, which proactively contacts customers with the most current information on their flight
the whole city with power outages yesterday, apparently 2 people were killed
i remember being in something alot like that last march, coming home from there, a huge thunderstorm overhead for hours, no flights landing or departing, and while waiting at checkin a bolt of lightning hit the gate area which is litterally 30 yards away from the chekin desks. the explosion sound was huge the whole terminal just suddenly went quiet for 5 mins. in the end my flight was delayed so late i missed my connection in detroit so i spent the night in memphis, and apparently when my plane did takeoff its first run was aborted and was stuck for a further 20 mins.
just sat up and watched that storm all night truely amazing.
i now just hope no more people are hurt in this series of storms
