i know this might soung stupid but how to you turn the engines off!
i've just started a virtual airline and need to start with the engines off, i've looked everywhere for help.

A few things. First-There ARE some stupid questions, but that's not one of 'em. lol

Second-Someone just posted this EXACT question like...yesterday...so if you look before you post, you might be able to find the answer to your question. It's no big deal, it just might save you some time. Shocked

) (FYI, I believe they said to hit CTRL-E)

Third-As for your VA, I wish you nothing but the best of luck. However, my advice to you would be to get some time under your belt with an established VA before you try to start one. (In other words, don't make the same mistake I did!) I've been completely overwhelmed with the amount of work that it takes to build a quality VA from the ground up. It has literally been a second full-time job for me for the last month. (And I've got three people helping me! There's no way I could have done it alone!)

Goto throttle panel and look for "fuel cut off"
or pick a key and assign "lean mixture"
I use "-" and it works on jets "ugh" as well
as pistons!!!

sorry Hyperion, i meant i joined a virtual airline not set one up, i've tryed cntrl and e and it doesnt work, i've got fs2002 standard if thats any help.

CTRL-E doesn't work, eh?

Then I'd try X's advice:

I think the default for shutting off the engines is Ctrl+Shift+F1. This works for me, but I'm not sure whether I've changed it or not!

Hmm, I must try that. On my JS41 I can turn it off but the first way I have ever turned engines off was hititng the ground engine (face) first. Then to my amazament If I crash again and try to start it does!

PS: If I crash it won't turn on, only If I crash again.

Most aircraft have the fuel condition levers on the throttle quadrant panel. Just click on the icon to open that and move the fuel condition levers to the "Shut Off" position and that should shut the engins down. For props you just put the mixture control to lean until the engine is off.

Once you get it shut down, restarted and fly to a destination you can do what I do. I usually taxi to a parking spot and shut everything down so that when I restart my flight I start from where I left off with a cold cockpit.

MattNW nailed this answer, but just to add: Most A/c have procedures for shutting down (some require the avionics be off first, etc.). If you like to fly 'as real as it gets' I suggest you search the downloads here for one of the manuals/checklists produced by Warner Shott for your favorite a/c and follow the shut down checklist when you are at the gate. Like MattNW I always start cold and dark.
