Hello everybody. Sorry I have not been around recently, I have been really busy with the house. I do have something to tell you though. I have almost finished the exterior of the house and I have decided to take a vacation for the summer.

Last month I flew down to Bermuda to meet this guy who had a plane for sale that I was very interested in buying. It is The ROBIN DR400 REGENT by
©Yannick Lavigne-Fred Banting-Rob Young.

Out of all the prop planes I have flown, this one was the most fun to fly. I thought it would be a great aircraft to see all of the sights. After meeting with him, we finalized the deal and I flew her home to Long Island, New York.

Now the place I will be going to this summer is Alaska. I have been doing a lot of planning and charting out my flight plans. I plan to visit about a dozen little places in this big, beautiful state. Some of my flights might be aimless, just hoping to find an airfield, but for the most part, I have inquired about lodging and runway lengths.

I will also be packing my camping gear along with my tent and some other various necessities. I have to be honest; I may be flying in some areas that are not really on any charts. Alaska in the summer will me magnificent. The weather is 70 to 80 degrees and the days are long. I hope to see some wildlife along with the glaciers, canyons, rivers and lakes and the many other sights that Alaska has to offer.

I flew The Regent around Long Island and clocked 30 hours worth of stick time. I am ready to take my vacation. I took her from Islip’s McArthur Airport 2 weeks ago to New York’s JFK and met up with a buddy of mine named Larry. He has this business where you give them your aircraft, and they will ship it to where you want. This was not a “cheap” transport, but I wanted to start my flight in Alaska and did not want to waste my time flying her across the United States and then North to Alaska. I wanted to start in Alaska.

My starting point is Ketchikan, Alaska. Larry said The Robin is in hanger 3 and she is waiting for me. I am excited. I leave tomorrow from JFK on American Airlines flight 1438 at 5:30am. It is a non stop to Ketchikan and I should arrive by the late afternoon.

So to all my Simviation friends, I will be sending you pictures via email to the Simviation site from my laptop. I will try to document all the sights and adventures. I do not know when I will be returning, I just need some time to myself and I am looking forward to this little “summer vacation”!

Oh, here are a few shots from last month when I picked up this little beauty down in Bermuda.

Wish me luck, next time I see all of you…I will be starting my journey from Ketchikan Alaska!!!!

Dave, I hope you realize that a trip south out of Alaska, will bring you down the BC coast and wind up on Vancouver Island if you do it right......Courtenay Airpark has 1800 feet of asphalt to land on under VFR....

Thanks Lurch. It is really all about points of perspective and camera angles. I didn't study photography and make it my hobby because Ramsa helped me tweak my system and I don't remember him being on any of my freelance photography shoots recently!   ???   Grin

Yeah, I know tongue but flying a 747 around in the bush would not leave alot of sight seeing time...and I really would be limited to runways...if you know what I mean!  Wink

Here is flight plan from JFK to Kethican on American Airlines.
