I guess Netscape is on its way out.  Kind of a shame, MS now has total control over the browser market.

I only used Netscape until about a year ago.
There are still alternatives to Explorer however.

I understand the AOL browser is basically Netscape. It might have been OK before AOL got involved, I really can't say. I find it slow & buggy & never use it. IE suits me fine. If you want an alternative browser try the free Opera. http://www.opera.com/

I never used Netscape but after seeing the article at Wired and being thoroughly disgusted with the (lack of) speed of IE, I took a chance on Firebird. It is everything it's advertised to be - small, fast, easily customizable. So I, for one, am not crying over the death of Netscape. I'm celebrating the birth of Firebird.

I use Netscape.........24/7.........I don't know. All the features will still be avialable. Like chekcing the e-mail and the ICQ and AIM browser included since it has nothing to do with where you download Netscape from. I happy with the new version of it, 7.1. Netscape works like a charm for me......ever since I installed Microsoft Office Internet Explorer has been a pain in the butt. It hangs all the time, it takes long to load, normally it didn't. IE is just not for me. Netscape is pretty cool. I love the different tabs. Right now I have Cafe Simviation, this, FS2002, raw screenshots, edited screenshots all under one window.  If this browser suddenly stops working because of the thing I will check out Firebird. I want something small but just as good.

Well, that is my opinion.

firebird is "netscape light" and just includes a browser without those e-mail programs or other stuff and the tab feature of firebird is very useful. :]

I always understood the AOL browser is Netscape Navigator in disguise. Although I'm with AOL (don't laugh) I find it useless & would never use it. This is the cause of many problems people report with accessing this site, downloading files & playing the sims online. IE is far superior for general browsing & downloading files in my experience.

I don't understand how anyone can use AOL.  Man, that is the most annoying pain-in-the-ass browser I have ever tried.  Then, add in all the crap they install on your system for you, and the fact that you have to fight a war to get them to discinnect it...  AAARRRRGGGHHH!

My friend is with AOL. Now, I am not saying the AOL service is bad, just their stupid browser. He is so happy with it and I can't stand the fact that he likes it. That browser sucks. I can't stand it. I am taking a 5 minute break to calm down.

I'm confused. I've been with AOL for about 4 years. I have no problems with it apart from the stoopid browser. If nothing else, it gives us something to complain about. No problem there as I can fire up IE or Opera right after connecting. LOL
Now, to get to my point, as I understand it AOL own Netscape. It seems logical that their browser is based on it, if not exactly the same. So how come people like Ronnie say they've never tried Netscape yet are happy with the AOL browser? ATI tells me Firebird is Netscape Lite & that Walmart browser of X's looks strangely familiar.  Roll Eyes
So, what's this topic all about anyway?  ???

Think I'm overdue for my lie down in a darkened room again. Hagar in Ray Bans ------>  8)
