Hi folks

i`d like to take my 737-500 from London Heathrow to Miami Intl Grin

my question is how ? ???

if i try GPS it`s direct with no stops , which means i fall into some cold water Angry

if i try high altitude airways , does that mean i have to nav myself from the Nav log which is pretty extensive when ya look at it ???

or do i not bother Sad

just head for shannon and then in a straight line to the nearest H route start near the destination

the new improved filght planner not only allows you to change destinations while airborne, it also tells you how much fuel will be spent in your filght

GilBates,

If you file your flight plan using routing methods other than GPS (High Altitude Airways, VOR-VOR, etc.), you can still fly with the autopilot set to NAV hold with your GPS/NAV switch set to "GPS." The aircraft will follow the track as it is displayed in the GPS window.

Secondly, by editing the Aircraft.cfg file, you can increase the fuel capacity of the aircraft to simulate ferrying a short-range aircraft across the Atlantic. That's how they do it for real! Out with the passenger seats - in with extra fuel tanks.

Maybe you should take something a little bigger then the 737, likr maybe a 747, or a 777, or maybe even a 767 Wink

I always thought half the fun was having to calculate how much fuel you would burn on a flight and adjust your flight plan accordingly. I've had to divert to Gander from an Azores/Bermuda flight plan because of unfavourable winds.

In your fs2002/Aircraft directory, find the folder for your 737-500. Inside that folder you'll find the Aircraft.cfg file, which can be opened in Notepad.

Scroll down and you'll find something that looks like this:

[fuel]
Center1=0, 0, 0, 2313, 0
LeftMain=-3, -19, 0, 1500, 0
RightMain=-3, 19, 0, 1500, 0

For each tank, the first three figures refer to its dimensions, and the fourth refers to its capacity in gallons. This can be edited.

Be aware that increasing the fuel capacity significantly will also increase your takeoff weight significantly. The .air file (also in the aircraft folder) will cause the aircraft to react accordingly. Therefore you will want to choose the longest runway available for departure. Also make sure your fuel load is balanced!
