Hello, I was wondering How would i go about making a cockpit to Fly in for FS2k2/FS2k4? With gagues and evrything. Like a real Simulator. How would i tie that in with the computer? The Gagues or the cockpit section arnt a promblem for me as long as the Cockpit im buliding is a beech Baron Bonanza king Air Etc. I have acess to all that stuff. How would i go about actually using it in FS? Thanks for your help.

You're not alone in this desire. There are several great sites out there that go into quite a bit of detail about the homebuilt flight deck.

One of the "cliches" of this is www.projectmagenta.com

I'm tempted, but I know how I am, and I would go without food in order to work on that thing, so I'm skipping it.

However, I've got a spare closet that I've been eyeing lately, and I'm thinking of making something a little less grand.

I was discussing this with one of my VA guys last night actually. I joked about the idea of having my gf move all her stuff out of one of our walk-in closets...

Then I heard her voice from inside my brain:

"You like it in there so much? Here's your pillow, Captain!"

I immediately shot that idea down.

Homebuilt pits are a great project for the "right person".

There are a few drawbacks to attempting a project like that:

The Wife. Roll Eyes

The Bucks.
The Wife. Tongue

The Space.
The Wife. Sad

The Wiring.
The Wife. Cry

The Materials.
And,

The Wife. Shocked

Not to mention you'll need hardware control software and drivers for whatever interface you come up with. Plus, you just about need a dedicated PC, just to run FS because it would be a real pain in the butt to move the panel and wires so the Wife can check her e-mail.

Don't want to get her mad!

I know where there are several hulks of cessnas sitting in fields that could be had cheap or free. I'm toying with the picking one up, If iremove the wings, and landing gear ( the one I am eyeing has noting forward of the firewall) and cut the tail off I think I can wrestle it into the basement. I think this would be a great start as I'm sure I could take a joystick apart and connect the pots to the flight controls. Sounds like a good start huh?
Now that I have put this out there I guess there will be a rash of guys skulking around GA fields to see what is hidden out in the tall grass.

work jaythree. thats the easy part, getting all the parts (for me anyway) the hard part is learnig how to hook it up to fs and getting the lcd screens thats the hard part..

Do a web search on virtual cockpits..... you'll find a lot of stuff.

If you have time, money, and space...... there are great ideas out there. Some are astounding projects.

There are a lot of pay hardware addons that add stuff like radio stacks and such already out there with interfaces and such. All it takes is money.

I have visions of a plane in my backyard. The only problems are I'd REALLY want to fly it and I can't afford the crane to lift it in!
So.....back to the keyboard/mouse/stick combo.
BTW this is for all intents a dedicated PC.
