As most of you know, mustang and I are making a Junkers 87 Stuka, and right now we are trying to paint some custom nose art for the plane. The problem we have run into is that we can’t seem to find out where the nose art is located. We previously thought that they were located in cfs3/aircraft/shared folder, but after modifying the files they seemed to make no difference to the nose art in the game. We have even DELETED (saved back ups of course) a couple of the existing nose art, but they still showed up on the AC. So we were wondering, where do we have to go to find the nose art applied to an AC, if we wanted to edit the nose art on it?

Thanks for reading, and any help is appreciated

I had tried making my own nose art and worked but ran into compression problems. After i made my nose art, sent it to the Uires/Usa folder. Put in the 'noseart_[nationality]_[number]. It appeared in the sim afterwards if i remember well.

Sure, since you are so far the only person to really ask Wink

But I have one more question... what format do you save the nose art in? I tried extended 16 bit 444-4 with an alpha map, and that got it to show up on the ac but the textures for the plane turned black Embarrassed the DXT formats just cause the game to crash, and 32 bit doesn’t show up right.

Something else I would like to know, did you save an alpha map on to the texture, or did you just make the transparent parts solid black, or both?

Ok thanks for your help though.

BTW have you seen our post in the raw screenshots forum Roll Eyes

Thats where i stalled when i was doing the nose art. The image showed up but look wrong (black) In DXT Bmp your supposed to save it as one of the options, i really cant figure out which one. Also, you should reduce color depth in PSp or Photoshop, dont know to how much either. When i tried sending a normal default noseart bmp to PSP it showed up like a negativ. You try and see. While in DXT Bmp i suggest trying each one except DXT3s. Sorry cant help you much there

I GOT IT TO WORK! Grin Shocked Cheesy

Ok, I found that it is a combination of both what you place in the Uires folder, AND aircraft/shared folder. See, what you place in the Uires folder is a compressed file (extended 444-4) with an alpha map. What this image is used for is for viewing in the nose art menu, and what you place in the shared folder is a DDS file with alpha map, and that is what you actually view on the ac. so the reason you couldn’t see the nose art before was because you were viewing it in the menu, but you just didn’t have anything in the Shared folder to back it up. That also goes for the reason why when I deleted the nose art from the shared folder, the nose art still showed up in the menu. Ignorant me just didn’t notice that it wasn't on the ac Roll Eyes

If you were wondering how I found this out... to make a long story short, just dumb luck Grin

BTW Thanks for your help, I wouldn't of been able to get this to work without it! Wink
